Funny you keep calling me a SG, however if it was you and you have a group with child and needed to make a quick run to the bathroom, you would do the same, you would shuffle through saying "excuse me, my family is up there." So stick your SG remarks.

The fact that some CMs have helped people who had to take their kids to the bathroom does not make it okay. The fact that they may have helped somebody catch up to their party for other reasons out of ignorance does not make it okay. That means that for one reason or another they did not know or were ignoring it to be nice.

I am a former attractions CM, and I am telling you that it is technically against the rules, even if it is not enforced very often. And while you will not get kicked out of the park for it (which I never claimed), you can get sent to the back of the line for it. I have personally witnessed this happening when a CM knew and followed the rules.

P.S: I am not talking about running your child to the bathroom in an emergency, which I have tried to make abundantly clear. In that case you entered the line with your party as required and extenuating circumstances occurred. I am talking about purposefully sending a party ahead to place hold while you get FPs, ride attractions, etc.

It's really fun to see people try to pull this in character lines as many times you will quickly get the boot! When I worked entertainment, I saw more families than I can count denied entry into the line where a family member held their place.

Actually, all parties to this kind of event would do well to mellow out....and find a polite and kind way to allow for little emergencies that do occur to not ruin a day.
Case in point- waiting in line for Haunted Mansion- Nature calls. URGENTLY.
I leave the queue explaining to everyone I "don't feel well". Everyone CLEARS AWAY, no problems! I make it to restroom. Now , Back to HM. Rather than shove myself through line, I ask CM if they will kindly let me rejoin my group when the get to the front, and I wait patiently and rejoin them with the CM's blessing. As far as I could tell, nobody upset. If they had already ridden, or CM said No, no problem. But to INSIST on that priviledge, my guess would get people's ire up. I do not know enough martial arts to be aggressive about things like that- and people DO bring guns into Theme Parks.
But that's just me.

My father retired after 20 years at WDW so your claim to be a former CM means nothing to me.

Character line is TOTALLY different then an attraction line.

Disneymom, that was a wonderful solution the problem! It's great that you took the other guests into account. I think most people will find that in circumstances like that if they are polite and explain the situation to the CM without being demanding we will try to help you.

One other problem with sending the party ahead is that it may be very difficult to join them. Many lines enter buildings with various rooms and preshows and if the line is shorter or moves quicker than expected, it can be very difficult to find your family.

If you go to a restaurant and put your name down for a party of 6. When you are all waiting outside, you decide to run across the street and get gas in the car while you wait, they call your name and your party is seated. When you return, do you think they will deny you entry and not allow you to go sit down with your family? I DON'T THINK SO they will GLADLY lead you to your table.

No one is talking about trying to skip through pre shows. We are talking about que lines such as the LONG wait before you enter the building of RnRC, or the outside wait at ToT, and others like that. If your groups has already entered teh stretching room of the HM, then too bad your SOL

DW and I were in line at WDW for the movie effects show, when "nature called". So Off she went to the womens facility. Meanwhile the line moved ahead, so I just stayed in the outer que as the others passed me. Once she got back, we moved forward to the show from where I had stopped. No one, including the CM's said a word! BUT if asked, I would have exited and waited, because ITS JUST A SHOW!!

KWIM VERN??

(sorry, was thinking of jim varney for some reason!!)

PM: I think it would be best if we both agree to disagree. I will always consider sending people ahead to hold places in line to be line cutting. It is obvious that I will not convince you of this, just as you will not convince me otherwise. Truce.

For any guests who are reading this thread: If you are fairly far into the line and have to leave it, you can always talk to a CM to see if they can give you a FP. I have seen several families leave the line near the front for emergencies, and always gave them FPs since they waited in line and had to leave for one reason or another. Of course, this will depend on the attraction and how far into the line you are, but it never hurts to ask nicely.
