And of course, some initiatives meet resistance from the front lines... At DCA North, WOD, and Main Street East, we don't typically use bubble wrap to cushion mugs and snowglobes and other breakables that Guests purchase. Instead, we use something known as the
Geämi Protective Packaging System, which when properly applied cushions better than bubble wrap, and is more environmentally friendly than bubble wrap since it's 100% paper from "sustainable forestry certified fibers" rather than plastic. Someone properly trained can wrap most items using the Geämi System without any tape, which is a contrast to the copious amounts of tape used by some to wrap using conventional methods.
On the other side of the street, in Emporium, Geämi was abandoned in favor of conventional wrapping materials like tissue and bubble wrap because the dispenser needed for the Geämi System supposedly "kept breaking." I personally suspect Cast Member resistance to new methods and an unwillingness to learn, leading to poorly trained personnel improperly reloading the machine. Most of the mishaps I've seen involving Geämi machines were due to improper loading of the paper causing jams. One loaded Geämi machine can wrap many more items than an equivalent volume of bubble wrap.
