CMs and First Aid

What I loved about that post was that she described it as a storm drain with water bubbling out but that it didn't look dirty so she let her kid play in it. In storm drain water?! Ugh! Another fine Darwinism candidate.

We once had an injury blow-off at Typhoon Lagoon. It was sort of Disney's fault that Mr. Syndrome got hurt because they insisted that he take his water shoes off (I think this was on Kowabunga), and he ended up slipping and getting a gory wound. It was weird; First Aid was basically like,
Here's a paper towel, now go away." He ended up with a scar, but hey, sh!t happens. Guess instead of just sucking it up, we should have gone into an online tirade.

she did something she wasn't supposed to do and she now has "offically" learned her lesson. The first aid CM seemed surprised that we viewed it that way.

YAY! Another parent who has my philosophy (sp?).

OT-sort of-I was just mentioning to someone last week about my DD climbing the counter to get into the cabinets (wife of one of SO's buddies-not close friend) . "if she falls and gets hurt after telling her no numerous times, you just learned your lesson the hard way. Her response "WELL, I feel it is my job as a mother NOT to let my child get hurt and keep them out of those situations." *snooty* OH my gosh! I am a bad mother. Yeah and they wonder why we always find excuses not to let Meghyn go over there for the day.--poor kid wouldnt be able to play. Heck they woldnt even let their DD run down a sidewalk alongside Advance Auto's Building after closing while we were out there talking---a length of about 15 yards. "dont go so far" Good lord, the child is 6 and there is no traffic and no one around and the girls were totally in sight, the most that will happen is she will fall on her moosh.
Sorry about that, just wanted to vent. It has been bothering me.

A way I was taught to tell people where First Aid is in the MK is that it is behind the red and white umbrellas (outside of Casey's). I don't know if the colors of the umbrellas were intended that way but the standard colors of first aid crosses are red and white so the color combo is a good one when giving directions.

I can believe that. I'm willing to bet most of their guests are SGs who try to blame Disney for something that is completely the SG's fault.

I never thot about that, good point and a great thing to remember.

See above lady I mentioned, she would be one, that is if the kid even got a chance to do something. Sigh!

HELLO why can't they ask for the first aid station if they are so concerned? They are the parents, not the CMs.

I was kinda thinking that too.

Thanks for the welcomes and the information. :) Parent on Board X never mentioned telling the 6 CMs around that Child had been hurt. I guess Parent just expected them to instinctively know. I feel sorry for Parent and Child - getting a black eye is a crummy thing to have happen on vacation - but if Parent didn't say anything when the incident happened, how could help be expected? But, I'm preaching to the choir here.

I LUV Chip, I'm a "no blood, no foul" parent, too. Always have been. DD takes her share of knocks and knows that if she's told not to do something, does it anyway and gets hurt, DH and I aren't going to sympathize with her.

Syndrome, I was confused about that, too. Who lets their kid play in storm drain water? Bleah. Later Parent did clarify, saying that the spray fountain just looked like a storm drain, but I don't know why Parent didn't say something to the CMs. I would have, especially if it was apparent to me that they didn't notice the injury. I guess the rumor that Disney employees are all-seeing and all-knowing isn't true after all. Bummer.

The CMs at Typhoon Lagoon were pretty good to my brother, by my recollection (it's been almost 10 years now since I was last down,) when he got pulled over by a wave in the shallows of the wave pool and scrapped open his back pretty badly on the rough bottom of the pool (which I'm assuming is rough like that so you can keep your footing.) They sent my mother and him to first aide pretty quick...

In retrospect, should he even have BEEN in the pool without an adult with the waves on when he was 12?

Hey, I'll tell you what though those fountains are extremely over-chlorinated (I know, they have to be) and that alone could be bad for the eyes! If you get splashed with that water you walk around all day smelling like a bottle of bleach.

The one time my kid ran to play in one (she was 3 at the time) we were at DTD and she was happily just dancing in the water- I'm standing right there- and for no reason, out of nowhere another child decides to just tackle her. He ran between me and my husband, shoved her, and then ran again. She fell down, cried, skinned knee, little brat went back to parents who were way down the road and not paying attention- and she never went by one of those fountains again.

I think they're a bad idea, period. As short as kids are and as sensitive as eyes are- I have no doubt one of those jets could blacken a kid's eye. As far as the CM's - it may have been they didn't know what the problem really was and just thought she was having a meltdown? (wild guess on my part) I have seen CM's who step up and do everything they can to help you but sadly, also in past trips I have also seen those who clearly are burned out and need to be looking for jobs elsewhere if theme park work is not making them happy anymore.

I'm just glad the eye of the kid in question was not badly hurt and I hope that the tale serves as cautionary to other parents.

Absolutely! Hubby and I are two of those horrible parents who believe in saying no. We teach all those horrible things like waiting your turn, mom/dad said no, and of course the dreaded "behave yourself". And I actually pulled this one on our 12 year old the other day: "I brought you into this world, I'll take you out of it" Sadly for the boy his dad's comment was "Yeah! What she said." LOL

We teach all those horrible things like waiting your turn, mom/dad said no, and of course the dreaded "behave yourself". And I actually pulled this one on our 12 year old the other day: "I brought you into this world, I'll take you out of it" Sadly for the boy his dad's comment was "Yeah! What she said." LOL

You could always use the line my DIL uses (they have three boys)

"You know, you might just be the spare kid we can do without!!!"

(usually in the "MOM WHISPER" that promises doom and destruction!)

they usually straighten up quickly!!

Reminds me of one of my favorite parts of the second Addams Family movie. Morticia is pregnant, and Wednesday tells Pugsley that when a new baby is born, one of the current child has to be killed.

Later, after Wednesday and Pugsley are caught trying (for the hundredth time) to do something awful to their new baby brother, Pubert, Grandmama asks, "What's the matter? Did someone tell you that when a new baby is born, one of you has to be killed?"

Pugsley says yes, and she responds, "Well that's just not true! At least, not anymore..."
