CM Dealings

Post by Goldyn » Thu Apr 03, 2008 7:02 pm

So, I work in an attraction for the WDW Company and everyone I work with is very nice. But how do you break the ice with the few CM's who are mean, ignore or talk down to you? There is a girl I work with that used to be very sweet to me but now she seems cold and distant. I can't recall anything bad happening between us. Should I go and talk to her about it or just deal with her ignoring me?

First post for me! I've lurked a few times. I will probably lurk some more too!

Welcome, I am sure the marsupials will be along soon.

I think that maybe the CM's are getting wrapped up in work? I know that it can happen just about anywhere that people focus on the job, and forget that there are co-workers that need to be treated with the same amount of respect that you would treat the customers (guests)

(or maybe they have been working back to back shifts and are very tired!)

I know when I was working on a project, my team and I were putting in 16 to 18 hour days for several weeks straight, and it starts to wear you down on the interpersonal side!!

Welcome Goldyn!

The Marsupial Welcoming Committee will be along shortly, I'm sure. When they show up, be sure to bask in the glory of your very own Welcome. *grin* I'm not sure they had become an official committee when I escaped my own lurker status... so I'm kinda jealous. :p:

As for your fellow CM, the first thing I'd say is don't jump to take her distance personally. She may be having some serious personal issues and she's dealing with them by withdrawing from most social contact. (I know I tend to get a bit anti-social when super stressed or sick.) Have you noticed how she is interacting with the rest of the team? You may not be the only one.

If, after observing her behavior with the other CM's you work with, it seems that her reserved behavior is primarily directed toward you and you truly are clueless as to the reason for it don't hesitate to find out why. Pick a moment where things are a bit slow and there aren't many people around and just say, "Hey (insert name here), I've noticed you're a little quiet when we're working together lately. Is something wrong, or is there anything I may have done to upset you? I miss how much fun we used to have when we (insert something fun you used to do together that you don't do anymore here)."

Then just wait for her response.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the welcoming.

I guess I will do that tomorrow and see what happens. I don't know if it is only me but it just seems very strange to go from being amazing friends to barely on speaking term. I may be putting too much into it. I'm just concerned I suppose.

High Goldyn! Welcome to SGT. As for your CM friend, I assume that either they are getting too wrapped up in work or have developed "Gatekeeper's Syndrome". We had a CM at the Land with that and they thought they were better than everyone.

My suggestion? Ignore them.

Not everyone is at a job to make friends, and if they don't, they certainly won't want you to force yourself on them. If they don't want to play nice, just ignore it, and make friends with the people who are actually worth your time, and want to reciprocate that friendliness with you.

If they're negative to you or cold, then that's their own deal, and you can't really change it, no matter how much you want them to. Just remember, if they're just not that into you, don't waste your energy or your time.
