I believe it might be even simpler than that. Yesterday when riding the bus back from Costuming I got to talking with a Custodial CM and apparently she's been called to the Emporium a number of times lately for both protein spills and blood. I haven't seen any caution or wet floor signs in the back of any of the shops nor any Voban anywhere. I'll ask my trainer, a coordinator, or a manager tomorrow. That way I'll know how these things are handled in my area. I don't know about DL but on MS here the shops are pretty much all carpeted except for the Confectionery which is tile. Also foods might handle these things differently than merchandise.glendalais wrote:I just had to deal with this recently, so if I could just add it in...
It's actually really easy (if not less disgusting).
You just put out a caution sign or have another CM stand around the Protein Spill, so that guests don't walk through it.
You get the Sani-Bits (or Voban, as it's apparently called over there), sprinkle it on the ground, wait for it to absorb said protein spill, and then sweep it up into a broompan, which you then have to go backstage and empty and wash out.
You then get the de-odorizing spray (I forget the exact name), and spray it on the ground. You then mop and plop the wet floor sign on it.
I've been busy but I made it to Orlando alright.

I hope he's still working at the Confectionary when we visit in November. :D: ;)BRWombat wrote:Shorty, I tried to concentrate while reading your recent posts, but you kept mentioning fudge!

I can work anywhere they send me on MSE. If they send me to the Confectionery I'll be working there, if they send me to Uptown Jewelers I'll be there. I believe though that neither will happen much. If next week's schedule is any indication of the future I'll be mostly working the Chapeau, Expo Hall, East Train Cart, Firehouse, Pin Cart, and Tip Board Cart as those are in the zone I'm scheduled for. My understanding is that I'll normally only work Uptown Jewelers and Confectionery when they need extra help in one of those places and only for a little while. I won't be in those stores normally.Whazzup wrote:I hope he's still working at the Confectionary when we visit in November. :D: ;)
Today's training went well, I enjoyed working in Uptown Jewelers. I learned a lot that will not only help me out there but also at the other shops. After work I met up with my brother and we went through the park some. First I got a FP for Buzz then we made our way towards Frontierland. Went over to Tom Sawyer Island for a bit then back, ate some dinner downstairs, then headed towards Tomorrowland.
When we rode Buzz Lightyear he maxed out the score, 999999 points, his best score ever. He had over 100,000 when the attraction had barely started, he knows where the good sensors to hit are and can hit them. I OTOH got only a little over 20,000 points.
After that he was ready to go and as I wanted to watch the Carousel of Progress we split up then. He gave me a FP for Space he got before meeting up with me but I didn't feel like riding.
Heard at work that a good bit of Epcot lost power for a good while today. Apparently Test Track, Mission Space lost power and the resultant surge caused a few other rides to go down.

Shorty, glad to hear Traditions and training went well. :)
As for training, CA training was so much fun. I can still remember who I was with.
I think both MK wardrobes are impressive. But I think the one in the tunnel is something else. I remember the first time I went in there- I was just in awe. I would love to try on the dresses (especially the old ones from Cinderellabration).Sarah Magdalene wrote:Now which wardrobe are you talking about? General MK near the bus terminal or the Entertainment wardrobe?
You want impressive? You gotta see all the Princesses dresses all lined up. Dang, those gals stay well dressed and well stocked! That had to be one of my first moments where I was blown away. Having a fetish for princess dresses, I so longed to snatch those things off the rack and try one on. But as a Mickey friend, those lovely gowns would be dragging on the floor if I ever had gotten a chance to put them on.
I always try to be extra nice to those still Earning their Ears. I was in their shoes not so long ago and I like giving them a little encouragement.
It's cool to read the experiences of other CM's and how they go about their training. There are so many different jobs at WDW that I sometime forget that we don't go though the same training. It's nice you get to share yours. "Friends" training is under lock and key.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

I'd love to check out the tunnel wardrobe sometime, maybe you can sneak me in there when you come down in the summer, assuming you are. :)joanna71985 wrote:I think both MK wardrobes are impressive. Forgot to mention, today was my last day of training. Sunday I'll be on my own for the first time. Looking forward to it, I shouldn't have too hard of a time as I really caught on fast to everything.
If Sunday goes well I'll probably start picking up shifts on the Hotline to get some extra hours.

I'm not a CM either, and I've never been, but all I saw three weeks ago was the Disney Point while I was down in the World. I actually started doing it myself when trying to point things out for my family! And, it's stuck with me back here in Boston.Shorty82 wrote: Talking about the Disney Point, I'm such in the habit of using it now my pointer doesn't want to extend by itself anymore. Getting on the Barnstormer when I was asked how many I did my habit of saying "one" and using my finger to indicate it but the middle finger also went up and I had to pull it back down. I see why even people who haven't been a CM in years still use the Disney Point, I'm already in the habit of it and I've only been a CM for a short time.
Funnily enough, at the Studios on Saturday of my trip, some little kids asked me, "Do you work here?" (And no, I wasn't wearing a nametag.)
I guess being clean-cut and wearing a solid black polo = CM lookalike :p:

Re: I've been busy but I made it to Orlando alright.
It doesn't take that much. I have a full beard, wear blue jeans, carrying a camera, wearing an SGT logo hat, and I am asked if I "work here" and before I can say no, they are asking where is... or how do I... I even had several people see the camera and walk up to me thrusting their photopass cards at me, and getting upset when I tell them I am not a photopass photographer. I even had one threaten to "report me" for not taking their photopass photo, even after I informed them I am just another guest like them, but who has a hobby of photography. ( I told them to go ahead and report me as I DON'T work here, they walked off in a huff.)goofyjoe wrote:I'm not a CM either, and I've never been, but all I saw three weeks ago was the Disney Point while I was down in the World. I can slightly understand the reason for the photopass confusion. Back in the late 90's I purchased (from the Indy Jones shop) a vest with lots of pockets in it that I use instead of a pack. And now with security not searching clothing I continue to use it as I can go through the "no bag" line. It looks kinda like the ones the photopass people wear. And I do have an SLR camera. I think I may have to get some fabric dyes and a thin brush and make my vest unique. Maybe some balack pinstripes..or maybe use red and yellow stripes to make a plaid pattern. :D:

HA! Great story! As if enough would tell them "not a CM". You better not get one of those red guest nametags like Wombat, or you'll probably get worse abuse from SGs.Randy B wrote:Maybe some balack pinstripes..or maybe use red and yellow stripes to make a plaid pattern. :D:
I don't know if you want to go Plaid, as you'll really have people screaming at you if you do.
(GR - you're the best, and don't let any SG tell you any different. In my quest for AP lithographs, I think I visited almost every GR location in every park, and they were all very welcoming and friendly.)
