Okay, this probably the stupidest question ever and I will accept all forms of abuse for it :p
I'm a Disney World girl who is making her first trip to Disney Land. I'm not very adventurous and my idea of thrills is Goofy's Barnstormer/Gadget's Go Coaster. So I know that Pirates of the Caribbean at DL far surpasses it's sister ride in WDW. I also understand it has TWO

drops.
I understand they aren't huge drops (to others) and I know some guest take their babies on them, yada yada...but the one at WDW scares the crap out of me each time.
Would one of you fabulous CMs tell me when to excpect said drops? It helps a lot when I know they are coming. I've watched several youtube videos, but it's so dark I can't really tell where they are in the ride.
Let the mocking begin :p

I don't think anyone would mock you here. A fear of hights and/or dropping in the darkness is okay.
The drops are not that huge, and begin right after the pirate head on the bridge says "dead men tell no tales" A slight drop, (and small splash) and then around a curve and another slight drop. If you can go on the one at WDW, then the one at DL should be okay.
Do you go on the Tower of Terror? or Space mountain, or (at Disneyland) Indiana Jones? (similar to the Dinosaur ride at AK)

I am like you. I prefer AstroBlasters, and the Mad Tea Party myself to attractions like Space Mountain, Tower, etc.
I have NO problems with the drops in Pirates. Of course, I close my eyes and breathe really deep, but that's how I deal with them.

The first drop is right after you go into the tunnel under the Pirate saying "Dead Men tell no Tales!" and it is the longest drop, but very quick and not scary at all. The second drop will come shortly after and is much smaller, just a slide down a short embankment, nothing to it really. I say you HAVE to try DL's POTC. It is by far the BEST. It is longer than WDW's and has more scenes and is set up the opposite from WDW's in that the scenes are backwards for WDW people. But POTC DL is the original, so WDW's is actually set up backwards from DL's. The scenes are in reverse. Weird.
I HATE thrill rides! HATE them. I will not even go on The Kiddies Coaster in Toontown! (I might work up the nerve to do it in two weeks when we are DL again:eek :) How did you work up the nerve to go on the kiddy coaster? I have not been able to. I just cannot do coaters or drop rides or anything like that. never have been able to.
But for me, Pirates is a MUST SEE! We never miss it every trip. We tend to go on it multiple times per trip. It is such a great attraction! You will love it and be glad that you went on it afterwards. You will probably be the one dragging everyone back on it!!! :D:

P.S. NO one will mock you here for that. We are a friendly group, we don't bite, just nibble a little ;) heeheehee

My daughter has been riding it since she was 1. Last year she made sure she was holding our hands for the drops, she knew they were coming after her 1st or 2nd ride :) You should be fine, plus, it is a MUST SEE!!!

the best reaction i got at wdw was when i mentioned the second waterfall...ahahahaha...someone said "second waterfall?" (the second "waterfall" is the same as the "waterfall" at wdw) this was after i'd gone on the ride there at wdw...then i mentioned the ending which is much much different than at wdw...HAVE A GREAT TIME! i KNOW you'll enjoy it! (the others have told you where the waterfalls are)
