Official SGT ADD thread

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.
Forum rules
At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Nope. As a former Mainlander it seemed to make more sense to move the clock up one hour and leave it there. JMHO

I don't get it either. It supposedly saves energy or something. Something with the shorter days during the winter I believe. Saving energy is the excuse behind Daylight Saving Time being extended from what it used to be.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

That's one of the advantages of working the overnight shift. I am always at work when the time change happens and I have a network synchronized clock to reset my watch to (which I later use to reset all the clocks in my apt). But I did have to call the person who was supposed to take over at 5am. I made the call and greeted him with " I bet you forgot that the clocks changed at 2am". Actually I normally remind the person who comes in at 5am a few days in advance but this year I forgot to do so. So this was only the second time in 20 years that a clock change caught my replacement.

True, but that was back when most commerce and activity was daytime only. With our current 24 hour society it is not a good idea. A recent study was done where energy use was compaired between two counties in Indiana. One changed clocks and the other didn't. It found that the county that changed actually significantly increased energy use durring the DST months.

I was running CNN on one of my outside computers, and there was a blurb about a stund that was done receiently that also stated that the energy usage goes up, as people are getting up when its dark and using lights and it offsets any savings.

perhaps we should have our elected officals eliminate it. I know that several states do not observe it! (DST)

I'm all for the removal of DST. Nothing else could drive me any more crazy when forecasting is having to remember which parts of the country I don't have to take into account DST. That and for about a week now, I'll still be forecasting on EDT instead of EST.

Plus it upsets the Flying Bongos, who are not that adept at changing their watches.

Where do I sign the petition???
