Reminds me of some sage advise from my father....

"What's the difference between a light bulb and a pregnant blond?"

"You can unscrew a light bulb"

I hope no one takes offense to blond jokes around here.. ;)

As for the whole freebies thing.. My wife and I have an understanding if wait staff ever sings to the other on any occasion it is grounds for a divorce. We are some what introverted and don't like a big fuss to be made. However we have on occasion mentioned that it is the others birthday to the waiter and asked for a birthday message to be written on the plate etc. but we do compensate the waiter with a very healthy tip.

The only other thing I can remember that we got from Disney on a special occasion was when I proposed on her birthday at a MVMCP. I had asked for chocolate covered strawberries to be put in the room and charged them on my credit card. The front desk ran the card and I signed the receipt and left a generous tip for the clerk and whoever was going to do the deed. We came back to our room and not only were there strawberries there was a white chocolate Mickey (that we still have) rose petals scattered about the room and two bunches of balloons attached to cards signed by Mickey and Minnie for her birthday and Cindy and Prince Charming congratulating us.

Most shocking though was when I went through my receipts and bill, I realized the charge was never put in for any of it. Those sneaky little CMs. That is one reason that my wife and I consider it a very special place for the two of us.

Awwwwwwww...that made my eyes moist. I know about those White Chocolate Mickey's. They are AWESOME!!!!!

We got one in Milk Chocolate when we arrived at The Boardwalk for our trip. We had one of the Honeymoon cottages, because that was all that was left to reserve. The Platinum pkg planner left us some very nice baskets and the chocolate Mickey in the room. They really take care of you when you have a special occasion and they don't charge for it! They ARE special those CMs, huh?
We ended up with many meal credits left on the dining plan and the concierge at the Boardwalk let us pick out some amenity baskets to make up for the lost meals. I don't know that that was SOP. Most likely no, but we ended up with several more Chocolate Mickeys in white choc. and we got some of the coffee baskets which we sent to our parents. We also got a cute Mickey tea set with a mickey tea pot and mickey head shaped sugar cubes. Soooooo cute.

It was nice that the Concierge did that. We could not eat that much food on our trip. With the Platunum pkg you get three full meals a day AND two snack credits. That is a LOT of food credits. We never in a million years could eat three full meals and two snacks a day. I would weigh 200 more lbs, then have to go on The Biggest Loser to take it off!

CMs are the greatest! They really know how to make magic!!! That is why we love them so much!!!!!

We've never done an "official" celebration at WDW where we told them and got buttons etc., although we do go there for birthdays, anniversaries, and such. But on our first Disney Cruise, back in Sept. of 1998, we mentioned to the head server that we were enjoying it so much that we might return for our anniversary the following Feb. The next night he brought out an anniversary cake and they servers all sang "Happy Anniversary." He said it's never too early to celebrate! That is quite a neat little memory, since it was our first-ever cruise (and we actually did return for our anniversary...the start of an addiction).

I've celebrated my birthday at Disney World before and it was so much fun. I was there for my 21st birthday in summer of 2006 and I did get a few of freebies without even asking: a gingerbread cookie and card from my server at the Biergarten restaurant, a role in the World Showcase players show in the UK pavilion, a ride in the front of the monorail, and extra ice cream at Hollywood Scoops at the Studios. I should mention that the gingerbread cookie, card, and front row monorail ride were courtesy of my friend who was with me that day, who told the CMs out of my earshot that it was my birthday.

I've celebrated my birthday in WDW the past 3 years (and will be again this summer). There are only a couple of instances that stand out in my mind: in 2005 I was given a little "surprise" by my friends at the castle show. And last year I was picked as an extra for the Indiana Jones show (but I don't know if my birthday had anything to do with that, or it is was because I was sitting in the front row). Other then those, it is mostly just "happy birthday" wishes and stuff of that sort.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

My fond memory of my birthday in DLR.

It was pouring rain, I had to pin trade outside under an umbrella and got sick. I got nothing from anyone and could not even get a friggin chair to sit in as only people in ECVx and wheelchairs were allowed to sit while pin trading. Not one damned present, no cake or hugs from Mickey not even a warm place to pin trade but at least I had friends on my birthday, all 3 to 5 of them.

Maybe it's me, but I don't get the huge fuss over birthdays in general. I guess maybe because my family did not celebrate them when I was growing up and I didn't receive my first real 'birthday present' or any cards or anything until my very late 20's.

I love to fuss over my husband and daughter because I'll use any excuse. But I guess I just don't see that the day I came into the world makes it any more special than the day that any other human came into it. I still get uncomfortable if people try to make it a thing for me.

People are born every day. I think what we do with every day in the way of helping other people is far more important than whether or not we are spoiled ourselves one day a year- whether by Disney CM's or wherever we may be.

It's just a day and any ordinary day can be special if you make it so. *shrug*

Sometimes I think that the magic has to be inside you first for others to recognize and then it comes back to you. I don't know. I need coffee.

I have never met February face to face, but I've dealt with her on a personal issue and believe me, she is a very special person, and the day she was born into the world was a day that the world received a special gift of a warm and caring person. She may not have celebrated birthdays when she was a child, but she has grown up to be one of those people whose adult life is filled with doing kind things for complete strangers. She has a very generous and giving heart and that can be rare in today's world. Bru, I don't mean to embarass you, but I just want to thank you for being the kind of person you are, and I hope someday we can meet in person. :grouphug:
