Freebies along with your meal

Post by steviefox69 » Thu Feb 28, 2008 6:58 am

Hi, I have been a lurker here for about a year or so but have not posted before but something on another board just got me really mad and I wanted some opinions from the other side so to speak. :D: But go easy on me for my first post pleaseeeeee :)

If someone was celebrating a birthday (or any special occasion) on one specific day, do you think it is right them to add this to every ADR for their two weeks stay? Surely your birthday etc. is only one day out of the year, you can't save them up when you don't celebrate.

I think that this is asking for freebies every meal. By all means, wear your buttons as long as you wish and maybe magic will come your way, but c'mon asking for it doesnt make it special.

I wouldn't dream of asking for anything even on my birthday, never mind my whole trip. I would be happy just to be spending time at my fav place with my family.

I love lurking here and you have given me some good laughs, I can't believe some things that SG's do.

Welcome to posting from lurkdom, glad you dove in. See the water is warm! :)

We were at Disneyland on my birthday in January, and Ralphie had Birthday baskets brought to the room! I got birthday buttons from everyone with a pocket full of buttons and a pen! And the Conceirge staff made a treat basket for me and brought it over to the room. The maid even made me a towel birthday cake!

I did not ask for any of it, except the birthday baskets and you have to order those from Vacation Planning. They are NOT cheap either!

But everywhere I went, people saw the button and did something special. It was a wonderful day! Little birthday cupcakes from Goofy's kitchen and the wait staff all came around and sang to me. This was ON my birthday. I wore my button for one more day and got lots of well wishes and that was enough. The rest of the trip I did not wear it. I do think some people use the birthday as an excuse to get freebies the WHOLE trip.

We go every Jan specifically to celebrate my birthday at the Happiest Place on Earth. Many CMs will ask where we are from, and why we came to DL. We tell them it is a birthday trip. They always wish me a happy birthday, even if it is 3 days after the date. But we do NOT ask for special treatment or things.

Now one time Ralphie and I had a great time celebrating a CMs birthday. We were at DL this last Christmas and at WOD and it was right near closing time. It was slow, very few guests, (I know that NEVER happens at WOD at Christmas!!!!!) and we were chatting and joking with the CMs at the counter.

I was talking to one young woman and said I bet she would be glad to get off her feet when she got home. She said very quietly that she was going out to celebrate her 21st! So Ralphie and I led the other CMs at the counter in a loud, boisterous version of Happy Birthday to the CM! She blushed and loved it. It is our job to make magic for the CMs after all! :D:

In 2001 Judy and I were at Disneyland for her birthday. The Disneyana Convention was ending that day (Public Day) and rather than the madhouse we, along with several friends, were having breakfast in Goofy's Kitchen. I had snuck along a Disney World "Today is my Birthday" button for her. I also went up and paid (in advance) for their special Birthday Package, which of course was delivered by Goofy.

However, the high point for Judy was at the table right next to us were a couple of Original Mouseketeers and they came over to join in singing happy birthday to Judy.

I've worn a birthday button for as many as 3 days during a birthday trip, one day at MK, one at Epcot and one at DAK, as an "experiment" to see if the experience is the same at all the parks (we didn't make it to Studios that trip). Yes, you will get special attention from many of the CMs when wearing the birthday button. No, you should never expect or ask for anything special just because you're celebrating your birthday. If things get out of control and too many guests start wearing birthday buttons for lengthy periods of time, I imagine Guest Relations might start asking to see ID cards. I can't really see that happening, though - that would be putting the guest on the spot for trying to take advantage of the system, and we know that Disney doesn't want to upset their guests. Better to let them have another free cupcake than embarass them.

Long time lurker, first time poster  . My friend and I were at the World last October and we were celebrating our birthdays so we wore the birthday buttons. Other than getting lots of Happy Birthdays from the various CMs we came in contact with, the only 'free' thing we got was a magical moment bestowed on us by the CM waiting on us at breakfast at the Crystal Palace one morning. This was not something we asked for nor something we expected becuase we were wearing our birthday buttons. It was completely out of the blue and came as a complete surprise to the both of us. We were treated to special cupcakes (quite the sugar rush at 9 in the morning :D :) and a round of Happy Birthday and we got cards signifying it as a magical moment signed by the CM and all the characters at the breakfast. Other than that we got TONS of Happy Birthdays from every CM we met for the rest of the trip.

Asking everyone to celebrate your Birthday with you for two weeks at every meal is a BIT MUCH, unless you just survived cancer surgery and chemo, or a bear attack or something. Celebrating one day or two near your actual birthday, sounds perfectly acceptable to me.

Welcome to our first-time posters! I'm sure that the Marsupials will be around soon to make it proper! :D:

I have gone to WDW every year for my birthday celebration since 1994. We may not go on my exact bday or even the month of my bday. I figure if the parks get 18 months, I at least get a month. I always get a pin. I don't expect anything special if it happens great. I just love hearing happy bday! So thanks to all the CM and other guests who offer greetings :)

When we made our reservations for my birthday dinner last year, we asked that it be noted for that particular meal. As it turned out, they noted it for ALL of the table service meals we had for the week. We did NOT ask for that, it just happened. My point in posting this is just that it does happen sometimes without someone requesting it.

BTW, I only wore my birthday button on my actual birthday.

I've done DL for my Bday the last couple of years, the first time, my 40th and also celibrating my divorce they gave away a sticker instead of the button and it dissapeared on splash mountain first thing in the morning. We did Goofy's kitchen for dinner and my GF told them it was my Bday and they sang to me and brought a cupcake. Last year I got the button, i wore it on my bday only and we did the bday party on main street which was lots of fun. Last Nov when we were there we celibrated her soons bday which is just before Christmas and while he gets a party with friends Christmas kind of overshadows it a bit so we wanted him to have a special day at DL, we also did the party at the park, which you pay for and allowed him to choose dinner where he got the cupcake also. Birthdays at Disney are great, I have no problem with people celibrating them on days other than thier bday since we cant all make it to the parks on the acual day, but for two weeks is overdoing it a bit in my opinion. I think I would get tires of it pretty quick myself. Other than the cupcakes the only thing I have had given to me was a browning at the bakery on main street when my Gf who is a chatty Kathy doll with a broken string told the CM we were there for my birthday. The other time i got a BD freebee way July 17 2005, it was a cupcake but I was there for another birthday of sort and everyone got one.
