Hmmmmmm, You ever notice that Scotty always said he couldn't do something, then about two minutes later gets it done?
How come he was never demoted for lying to the captain?

Would you demote the guy that actually got things done - even if he does bitch about it first? It's all about lowering expectations and then coming out looking like the hero.

True, but in a military setting, its not acceptable to not let the captain know whats going on! Especially when the Klingons are trying to give you a smack!!GaTechGal wrote:Would you demote the guy that actually got things done - even if he does bitch about it first? It's not?!?! I did it all the time when I was a senior NCO and the general command staff thought I was God.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:True, but in a military setting, its not acceptable to not let the captain know whats going on! Especially when the Klingons are trying to give you a smack!!

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Hmm, When I was on an Admirals staff, most of the staff officers (and the Admiral) thought that that THEY were god!hobie16 wrote:It's not?!?! I did it all the time when I was a senior NCO and the general command staff thought I was God.

Don't forget this exchange from Star Trek III:GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:Hmmmmmm, You ever notice that Scotty always said he couldn't do something, then about two minutes later gets it done?
Kirk: How much refit time till we can take her out again?
Scott: Eight weeks, sir. But you don't have eight weeks so I'll do it for ya in two.
Kirk: Mr. Scott, have you always multiplied your repair estimates by a factor of four?
Scott: Certainly, sir. How else can I keep my reputation as a miracle worker?
:)

In my favorite STNG episode, Relics , Geordi is arguing with Scotty, saying that regulations state a certain type tank won't take the amount of pressure they're trying to give it. Scotty gives the req. number and says. <Scottish brough> "Forget it lad, I wrrrrrroooooottte it."</Scottish brough>
(How pathetic is this. here I am with my first post here and I'm quoting Star Trek dialog.)

Hey, starting out by quoting old shows is not at all a bad introduction around here! (See this page for an example of how not to start!)TdcOgre wrote:'Cuz he was a "miracle worker".
