Stupid CDS Tricks...

Post by CMGUY89 » Fri Feb 22, 2008 12:56 am

So I am walking to my ASL class today in New York City. All of a sudden I get a phone call from the 407 area code and I can tell it's and Epcot number. It's someone from labor telling me I have a no call, no show for my shift TODAY!!! Which is unusual considering I haven't been working for over a month!!! I don't know what happened, maybe I accidently signed up for a shift on the hub but I can't be that stupid can I? I call my CSM and he talks to a GSM in my area and they decide to take it off my record card this time, but for me not to do it again. I was so embarrassed, and me immediately jumping to the worst possible conclusion assumes this means they won't cross train me...my OCD is acting up and I am losing sleep again. Sigh, only three weeks till I go back for spring break!

Off, but sorta on topic: Could someone please tell me what CDS is exactly? We don't use it in DL Foods, but I hear people from other departments complaining about it. I know we imported it from WDW, and that it's something to do with scheduling, but that's about it.

Anyway, moving on...

That's really weird. Was it at The Land, or another random location?

<begin DLR logic, not necessarily applicable to WDW>
Since it's the middle of the off season and because you're a CT, even if you wated to work, Cast Scheduling shouldn't actually be able to schedule you a shift - if they try to do it in GEMS, it simply wouldn't process the request (I'm not in scheduling, but that seems to be my understanding of the process from what I've gleaned hanging out around there).
</end DLR logic>

Oh well, good that your GSM took it off your record card. Maybe go into The Hub and make sure you don't have any other shifts coming up?

Don't take it personally. I once came back from a couple of weeks off to find myself called on the carpet and told I was having a termination interview because, "You've had four no-call no-shows in the past month. I'm sorry, but I've got no choice but to terminate you."

"Yes you do. You can fix the records that show that I wasn't scheduled for the past two weeks. I got ADO for all four days," I retorted.

"What? Who gave you ADO in July?!?"

"You did. Here's a copy of the request, I think that's your signature on the bottom line."

"Oh."

"Yes, oh."

"Right then. Get your tailfeathers back to work, I have some paperwork to undo. And don't let this happen again!"

LOL, thanks. It was at the land as that is the only attraction I am trained for. I looked at EHH and it says I haven't picked up any shifts in the last 30 days. It was very strange.

CDS stands for Cast Deployment System. Basically it functions as our time clock and also gives us our positions. You log in, clock in, and get your assignment. It prints it off on a slip of receipt paper. If you are bumping someone for a break it prints the times of their break. It also initiates the rotational bump roughly every hour. It sometimes has brain farts and gives people breaks who just got to work while people wait 3 hours for their breaks. It isn't perfect but at least you lose the human error component...I hope.

Let's hope and pray that someday the MiMs system will run at least as well as the CDS.

We computer techs have a saying. To error is human. To really foul up takes a computer.

Why are you embarassed? I would be outraged, and demand that it be taken off my record!!! Someone there should be embarassed. But if it's anything like our managers, (actually one in particular), they would still find a way to blame it on the CM. I like most of our managers, and adore one of them, but one of them have the absolute worst people skills. I've decided that if that manager ever needs to dicipline me, I'm calling a shop steward. Any conversation beyond "hello", a shop steward will be present! I barely say hello to that manager as it is.

God love Disney management!

LOL, I was outraged at first but considering how it must of happened I figured it could have possibly been an accident on my part. I may have accidently signed up for a shift on the EHH. I was looking to see what shifts were available to try and assess where Management has the greatest need for CMs and I may have clicked it accidentally. But looking on my EHH panel under previous shifts it says "You haven't had any shifts in the last 30 days"

Whatever, at least it is off my record card. I know what you mean about managers like that, for a while it was like that with my homeroom manager. I didn't want to speak to him at all! But I've kind of softened. The other scary thing is that even though I can get a shop steward, I'm not in union because I am seasonal so my shop steward doesn't like me... Sigh, who knew there was this much drama at WDW? All I want to do is work at Soarin' and it's like pulling teeth to get over there...

Make sure and print that 30-day record today and tomorrow. Then, go to your manager, watch your record card, and if anything appears, call the BS right where it is. You don't just want it reversed, you want it removed and noted that it was not your fault. That way they can't say that someone pitied you and took it off.
