Calling in Available
So I have ZERO hours scheduled for the next THREE weeks, because, while they mde me sign a paper that agreed I would be available at ALL hours starting May 1 -- their summer "scheduling season" doesn't start until June 19.
I've been told if I want work I need to call in available every day. Anyone have experience with this? I called in avaialble this morning at like 7:45 AM, and they just said they'd call me if anything opened up. I get the feeling -- especially in my small department -- that I will not be hearing back from them. Yet I have to spend the entire day sitting here on my ass crossing my fingers, hoping they call.
Is that pretty much how it works? Does anyone have any thoughts on how often they actually get work when they do call in?
This kinda sucks.

Yep, you gotta wait. I would say, give them a pager or cell phone number so they can find you if you REALLY want to work.
:!: A word of caution though: Once they have this number, they will call you on your days off. Make sure you REALLY want them to have it!

Hang on to your Hat, 'cause I'm not going to get it when it blows off your head.

My stage scheduler has a "I Want to Work" form that we can fill out with specific availability, etc. if we want to pick-up extra hours (or at least they did this past summer, haven't checked sine then). That's always an option.
What I did was change my phone number on the portal to my cell phone, and then set a special ringer (the most annoying one on the phone) for Work. That way, if I don't want to work on my day off (who does?) I just don't answer... he-he. It just shows up on their computer as my home number.
Also, so you know... it is my experiance that the caller-id will show up as either 781-4000 (Disneyland) or 817-4000 (DCA) so you can just set those numbers with the funky ring, not necessarily your stage scheduler's normal #.

Oh, so you guys can see the phone numbers out there? Does that go for all numbers or just some of them? All WDW numbers are ID blocked so we have no clue if it's them, a solicitor, a ID blocked home, etc.MaliboomerMike wrote:Also, so you know... it is my experiance that the caller-id will show up as either 781-4000 (Disneyland) or 817-4000 (DCA) so you can just set those numbers with the funky ring, not necessarily your stage scheduler's normal #.

From my experiance none of them have their ID blocked per-say, it just appears to come from a central number for each tie-line prefix.Oh, so you guys can see the phone numbers out there? Does that go for all numbers or just some of them?

This sucks. I've called in available a few times now and haven't gotten any work. Apparently, I was beaten to the punch one day, and the one day I couldn't work, they needed me.
So I've started calling in available the day BEFORE. They start the available list with my name at the top. Then I call early the next day to make sure it's there. So far, I've been sitting at the top of the list for 2 (or is it 3?) days with nowhere for me to work....
Oh well....just gotta keep at it I guess.
