Ah yes, those good old 78s! I had several that had designs on the label. They came with a mirrored thingy that sat on the spindle and when the record turned, you got a zoetrope effect. I think I had a couple of Disney ones.

If you like Minnie's Yoohoo, you should get Disney's On the Record. It was a very short lived live theatre show that toured a few years ago. It's got a great rendition of that song, although my favorite is the medley of nonsense songs with supercalifragilisticexpialidoceous (sp?), zip-a-de-doo-dah, Hi-Diddle-De-De (this is REALLY fun to type!) and more. On the Record was awesome! Did you get to see it live? It came through Dallas a couple of years ago and my family and my in-laws -- our same crew that goes to WDW together -- knew we had to catch it.

We came out of the theater and bought the 2-CD set immediately -- in fact, we got a set for each family -- and they are still among our favorite Disney CDs! The nonsense song you mentioned is my favorite, too -- on stage it closed act 1, with sheet music flying everywhere, really funny. From the second act, I liked "Be Our Guest" in different languages.

All of the arrangements are contemporary and clever, like the great moment (for us park fans) during "Everybody Wants to Be a Cat" when they pause after the line "I've heard some corny birds who like to sing," and launch into "In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room!"

What's cool is that the CDs capture the entire show -- there was no dialogue, only Disney songs (though there was a simple plot involving the two couples: a young ingenue falling for an aloof guy, an older couple with a past history, told through the acting and the lyrics). So even if you missed it live, the CDs are well worth the purchase for great new recordings of classic songs.

Oh, and FWIW, the actress who toured playing the ingenue part is the one who's now on Broadway as Mary Poppins. And she brings the house down on this CD doing Reflection.

No, unfortunately I didn't get to see the tour. I had the CDs and loved them, but the idiot in charge of the local theatre here in Orlando announced that no one here in town wanted to see anything Disney since they could go to the parks, so he wouldn't bring it in. The closest it played was Tampa, which isn't all that far but still is a bit of a trek when you get paid theme park wages. I listen to the CD in the car all the time though!

Ah, gentlemen (Wombat, Pirate) I'm not that old but I'm old LOL. When I was a kid, I was singing showtunes in the grocery store as I rode in the cart (I was 2 or 3) because my mom used to always watch Fred Astaire movies and Gene Kelly and Howard Keel and so I knew all those as a tiny tot. Old people used to come up to us and ask if I was really singing what I was singing LOL. "You say Tomayato, I say Tomahto. . ."

So I'm like a Trill from Star Trek, kinda. I might be in my mid-thirties (WDW was established in 1971 and so was I LOL) but the inner slug is ancient! ;)

Oh, and I still miss "Now is the time, now is the best time," from COP even though I know IAGBBT was written for it originally. My grandparents used to love that show and I can still hear my grandfather's booming (if offkey) voice singing and telling me to sing louder at the end of the show for the singalong *sniff* . . .

Would you believe I used to be a member of a Klingon Fan Club in Virginia called the IKV Batleth?

Their site is out of date with some things, but there are still people I try to keep in contact with from that club. I did have a Klingon costume and ridges- which are probably ruined beyond use now...The ridges that is... I think it's in storage somewhere not sure whether it's here with me in Ca. or still in Virginia...

I remember they wanted the members to learn some klingon, and I memorized the words for 'Where do you keep the chocolate?"


Some people use "Trekker" to be more polite than "Trekkie" They're the ones that dress up funny and then act weird when they have stars present from the shows. Trekkers are better behaved, though they still may wear the uniforms around the conventions where the stars are.

Frankly, I prefer making that long drive to Tampa rather than seeing a show here in Orlando. The Bob Carr theater downtown is a big concrete box with the acoustics of a big concrete box. puglears
