I'm afraid! LOL (Grad night)

Post by February » Sun Jan 27, 2008 4:53 pm

Okay, so we were in WDW last fall during Night of Joy (or Night of Ehhhh Boy as my husband had taken to calling it) we planned to be in other parks the days of NOJ and we were fine.

Now I find out that the first two nights of our April Trip (grown ups only) are Grad nights! Didn't those used to be later in the year, like May or June???

Anyway, we're staying at POFQ and I'm wondering are they more likely to book these kids into All Stars? I'm actually glad that we're not staying in a MK resort this time because till 4 am? I know you're going to hear some of that noise from the bands at least!

Anyone have any sage advice??? Our first night we're supposed to eat at Cali grill- and plan on taking a cab back from the hotel to the FQ afterward. . .but I'm nervous LOL

Thanks!
MCP

Our last trip to WDW we had a few Grad nites and it was May. We just stayed away from the Magic Kingdom and we were all right.

One of my fellow CMs from Main Street called it "Night of Oy!" for all the unbelievable stunts they pulled.

Okay, apparently you're unclear on the concept of Grad Night. We lock the little puppies into the Magic Kingdom for the whole stinking night and don't let them out until morning. They don't stay *anywhere*!

But they do spend the day before Grad Night running loose. They generally get split up between Downtown Disney, Studios, and until they started messing with the animals, AK. So watch out for them everywhere *but* the MK the day of.

Night of Oy. . .ROFL! That about summed up what we overheard and saw just when the busses were unloading at the TTC and we were walking back from the Epcot monorail!

Sounds good cause I had planned for us to be at the MK that day and then we have dinner reservations at CR after park closing- then will be cabbing it back to FQ.

It's the Friday and Saturday night right? I don't know what we're doing that Saturday. Hmm. Will have to double check everything.

My kid will be there with her dad and stepfamily the same week we are different resorts (hey, perfect chance for me to be able to go to WDW without her and not feel guilty! LOL) I'll have to warn them about Grad nights too cause they never check out anything in advance and their trip is a lot longer than ours- they'll hit three of the four.

Thanks for the info!!!

or you could just call it "No Joy"... and if anyone asks just say, oh, "No" is an acronym for "Night of"... :p:

Interesting that some of my favorite stories about Disneyland on the snopes web site concern events from grad nights there!! Never got the "thrill" of experiencing that, as my work usually made us go in the "off" season due to workload and so forth!

Generally they are much better behaved at Grad Night than at No Joy. If someone screws up badly it can get the school banned for one or more years. And that means they get everyone at the school pissed at them.

Yup, it's true.

One year, buses from rival schools were unloading at the TTC when a fight broke out. Disney simply put the kids right back on the bus and told them they were all going home. The bus driver said, "Sure, but not right away. I have to get my eight hours of rest before it's legal for me to drive again, so enjoy your night on the bus, kids!" and off he went to a hotel.

One can only imagine what injuries and indignities the perpetrators were made to endure during those long, cold, boring hours.

I was working Fantasyland Attractions in 04 during Grad Nights and they were generally well behaved. There was the occasional drug and inappropriate affection to deal with, but the majority are well behaved. You also have to remember that during the actual grad nights police officers from Orange County patrol the parks en masse.

We did have one amusing incident in Fantasyland when I was working. Somebody actually managed to kick over a volcano on the Peter Pan ride during the first grad night. At our track talks the next night our managers briefed us on the incident and told use they were adding ride-throughs to our rotations so that we could keep a better eye on the rides.
