Where do you stand?

Post by Driver_dylan » Thu Jan 17, 2008 12:08 pm

A quick question for those of you who may know more than I.

Where do you stand when a single manager goes out of his way to make your life difficult?

FYI: Mutiple CM's from the department have gone to compliance on this man and yet he stills doesn't get it. The latest offence was for giveing me an On the record councleing for geting on the radio and advising Monorail 3 that there was a staffing issue at base.

The old Crappy Manager Gambit. My experience has been the employees complain but nothing is done.

Employee #1 either transfers or quits. Manager says he had a bad attitude. Upper management agrees because they rely on manager for insights.

#2 either transfers or quits. Upper management smells a rat but still does nothing.

#3 either transfers or quits. Upper management now realizes manager is the problem and either transfers into job with no reports or fires. But, the damage is done. The company has lost three good employees who have quit or will have less than excellent attitudes because of the way they were treated.

Oh yeah, I was #1. :D:

I advise that you stand right next to your Shop Steward. Whether you pay your dues or not, you're entitled to Union representation any time there's a complaint against you (justified or not). Check with your Steward *now*, because there's a time limit on filing a grievance.

The grievance process takes forever, and involves lots of dull meetings, but it does work. I know of three CMs who were termed improperly and ended up getting reinstated with full seniority and up to $43,000 in back pay for their time off. They were also pretty much immune to reprimands after that, at least from the original offending manager.

Do it, please, if only for the sake of employee #2!

Yea, if you're manager is giving you trouble, contact the Union. They might not be best at ensuring a good wage, but they're still pretty good for ensuring a good work environment.

I Have taken your advice Zazu. Let's hope we see something. As per my record, It is clean enough to let me dodge the problem for now, but the problem is that I want to keep it that way.
