Any Fallout from the new Splash rules?

Post by DevilDuckie » Mon Jan 14, 2008 7:10 pm

So apparently DL raised the height requirement for the front seat of Splash Mountain to 60" (which is just barely shorter than me!) this week. I sincerely hope that all guests are accepting this new safety precaution with dignity and grace.

Somehow I doubt it, though.

Why did they make the change? Was there an incident, or just too many people trying to climb out of the log?

As far as I know, they haven't raised the height limit on Splash. And if they haven't, it hasn't been communicated to most CMs.

Then again, I'm barely working right now, so it might have happened and I don't know about it.

As to any effect it might have, I would not want to be working Splash Mountain greeter right now, lol.

It's not raised for the whole attraction, only for those in the front seat. From what I've heard, they've had issues with kids who are small enough ducking all the way under the front of the log on the drop (to avoid the splash) but then hitting their heads on the front of the log. Haven't heard of anyone taking it badly yet, but it IS January, so ask me again when it gets warmer and more people are riding it.

The problem of kids and people ducking under the log is serious as a person could jam their head into the log and then damage their neck. I understand the concern but that is a bit excessive.

Actually, when you're dealing with possible spinal injuries, what counts as excessive? I mean, it's one of those areas you don't want to mess around with. You break your neck, and you can be done in less than a heartbeat.

If it's true that that's the problem and by making the height limit 60" they can avert possible disaster, then I support this action completely.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Really!! Ya don't even wanna mess with a possible neck/spine injury!! And if SG's did it once, they will all start to do it! ("hey timmy, ride in front and cuck under, you won't get wet") course they forget to tell timmy that he will be in a wheel chair if he messes up his back! And anyone who has done that will tell you that nothing is worth it!!

(New a guy they fell off the third step of a small ladder. tweaked his back so bad and he was in so much pain that he could hardly walk! and it lasted for years!)

Becuase small kids would duck down durring the drop and bump or gash their head on the front of the seat. Hence the parents bitched, so the raised it to 60" so it is harder to learn over and duck under the front part. Yeah, it sucks, but so do lawsuits. I rather have a parent complain about the new rule, than a SG complain that their kid broke their neck.
