Post by Cheshire Figment » Sun Jan 13, 2008 8:32 pm

There has been severe leakage into the Aquifer. Here are two articles from The Orlando Sentinel, and a chart:

Dang! That is not good. Question (stupid one sort of, I'm not very informed on conservation stuff like this) If that salt water does make it's way to the Everglades, it would eventually kill off them off right?

If the concentration remained high all that way, it could. But the more immediate problem is that since the aquifer is like a river of underground water, and many places get water from it just down stream, many previously "safe" wells may now have dangerous levels of salt. And if salt is making it to the ground water, so are other things. So not only is salt a problem but it could be an indicator the likelyhood of other chemicals and even biological contamination.

I imagine that something is going wrong. they don't dump water into the system, but the ground? that seems like a waste!

Recently there have been food contamination due to animal waste (usually dairy cows) getting into water used to wash food or to irrigate crops. There is the potential of chemicals in the run off. Water companies are supposed to check the quality for certain things like salinity. The saline water could damage crops down stream as well as cause problems for the native plants.

tsk tsk.

The water at the Contemporary already stinks like sulphur...A little salt and we could have deviled eggs! Ba dum bum! hahahahahahaha, it was funny!
And why is there so much durn sulphur in the water at the Contemporary? But, when we moved over to the Boardwalk area, it was just fine, no stench or taste of suphur. Interesting in that they are both on property. They MUST get their H2O from two different sources. I just remember the smell that wafted up my nostrils when I went to take a sip of water they poured from the tap at the Concourse Steakhouse... :barf: Put it down, waved the waiter over and orderd bottled water.... :)

Probably saved yourself a tummy problem. Here in San Diego there was a bit of controversy. I small strip mall that had a hair dresser salon, a taco place, and a deli, receiently "discovered" that their water supply was not hooked up to the water supply, but to the "reclaimed" water used to water the plants! And it had been that way for many years! A lot of the tenants wondered why the water always tasted funny, and they had tummy problems!!

Most of the water in the Orlando area is like that. I only drink filtered and bottled water down there. My brother and his wife who live in the area never drink from the tap and instead they buy bottled water at the store.
