I don't see any problem with it, as long as you realize that it could show up elsewhere. You have no control over it. Someone can be "lurking" on a board, see a picture, right click, and save it.

I'm not trying to sacre anyone, but once its there, it out there (pointing to the ether)

We see pictures of know victims from fifteen or twenty years ago, showing up all over again.

yeah, I know what you are saying. I realize the risks but who's to say there aren't ones out there anyway that the parent didnt actually post but someone took a crowd shot and some nut actually took the time to pinpoint one individual child from it. I guess (and this is my philosophy) you cant live in a bubble, you can try to protect yourself but if someone really wants something they WILL find a way to get it.

So is this kind of stuff more prevelant now that the media plays it up more or has it always been there and people are just now realizing what can happen. I dont worry too much about a photo here or there, I am usually more worried which utility wins the lottery this paycheck and gets some money. LOL

BW, Beware of the princess wearing a pith helmet and carrying a shotgun. She admitted she wants to "hunt" you down.

And I will diligently spend all the time necessary to read and reply to each and every post, giving them much higher priority than unpacking, catching up at work, or even eating and sleeping. (Read: I searched for every post that mentioned me and ignored the rest.)

New topic: is it appropriate to post those pictures online... okay, never mind again. ;)

Welcome back Wombat!!! :D:

As far as posting the kid's pictures, some people will post their children's pictures on one thread, then in other threads describe their lives, their kid's names, their mom's maiden name, etc.

Now, as someone with OCD, who can imagine EVERY possible bad situation, I foresee at least one thing that could go wrong:

Mom posts pics, the kids' names, their city, either the actual name of or a decent enough description of their school, what sports teams they play on, what mall they hang out in, as well as Mom's occupation, first names of some of her co-workers, what time she normally returns from work, etc. Of course, not all at once, but over the course of several posts.

Now pedophile has info. He trolls the school after hours when practices are going on, finds said kid. He now has ALOT of info on Mom. So he gets himself a fake badge and nice suit, approaches kid after school, claims to be police, says Mom is at station, something happened at work, etc. He knows enough info, kid assumes he MUST have talked to Mom. Kid gets in car...

Now obviously, this is out there (I am an officially diagnosed nut here!!). Most pedophiles will take the easiest route to find a victim, but it IS possible. These guys are really good. They arrested a local guy last week. He was 48, pretending to be 21 on myspace. He would solicit pics from girls as young as 12. Once they sent them, he had them. He would tell them to send more or come meet him or he would call their parents and tell them what the girls had already done.

I do post pics of the kids, but less of the older 2. The younger ones are usually with me or DH, so the above wouldn't really work.

One thing I did with my older kids was to tell them that if a cop ever tries to "take them to headquarters" or whatever, they are ONLY to get in a marked car with lights, paint, etc. I told them if the cop says he is undercover, ask him to call for a marked car. The sex crimes guys my sister knows from the ER told her that was a great idea and most cops would not be ticked off about it. :D:

Some good points Steph.

On that same note.....look what I got in an E-mail. Are ppl really that ill informed to fall for this. Especially since they obviously know how to use the internet.

The header had a graphic of the IRS

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that
you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $109.23.
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-6 days in order to
process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

Interesting since I have not worked this year and the only fiscal activity I have is my really small bank account. Besides Since when does the IRS hunt you down to GIVE you money.
