Good call with talking to Customer Service. I know it's the long way around, and I don't doubt the ideas other people on this thread have posted (some ingenious theives...er...brilliant minds, I mean, on this board :p :) but it's the safest way to take care of it: if they screw up, they have more and they can just replace it! :D:

Fine, take the safe route. lol Kidding. Yeah, the day we took the ink tag apart my friend had on kitchen gloves and everything and we were hoping for an exciting burst of ink. (the tag wasnt on anything) All we got were a few drops of blue... so we cracked it some more and still really didnt get much. Anyway, I am glad that they are able to ship it to you!! yay!

I spoke with customer service. I am mailing them the bag and they are taking the sensor off and returning it. Turn around time is about 2 weeks. They will reimburse me for shipping.

I guess that's the best I can hope for My friend is cool with her Christmas present being 3 weeks late, lol.

I'm thinking you can freeze the bag, which in turn will freeze the ink. Then do the slip a protective barrier under the tag and break away.

Good wire cutters will work on this type too.

Be careful trying to freeze the ink, some inks have freezing points below -150 degrees Fahrenheit. It's unlikely that you will be able to find a freezer that goes that low.

Last time I was in Amsterdam, I went to a bar where they were advertising that they serve their Heineken at "zero degrees." I was quite hot and thirsty that day, so that sounded wonderful...then, in the middle of ordering, I realized what they probably meant and asked "Oh...is that zero degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit...or maybe Kelvin?" :p: The bartender didn't miss a beat before responding "Kelvin, sir. I'm going to serve you a beer cold enough to stop time."

Edited to add: I wasn't thinking clearly at the time, or I would have realized that beer actually will freeze as it doesn't have enough alcohol to prevent that at temps below 32 Fahrenheit.

Having worked retail before, I also would suggest a good strong magnet. It sometimes requires a *little* force as well, but if you feel like you're really pulling the thing, then you probably don't have a strong enough magnet. (Also, that means you should stop pulling as you are about to break the glass bit that holds ink which will stain your item!)

There should be a phone number (starting with 407) on every one of your receipts which would be for Disney Parks shopping. They can shop all the stores at WDW and might have a suggestion (such as you sending the one you have to them, and them sending you a new, security tag free, item). I would think things like this have happened before and they may already have a process in place to deal with it.

We had that happen at Reindeer Roundup, where they had sent some items with tags that could not be removed at the ranch setting. They just did not have the equipment to do it. But we went to a store and they removed it. Since you are not there anymore, I would do what Kwahati said and see if you can send it back for a tag free one. When we have had items sent from WDW and they have broken in transit, they replace them, even without having to fax or send a receipt. I am sure they do this within reason. We had a couple ceramic figs and a small snowglobe that broke in shipping and WDW replaced them for us. I don't think there would be a problem with them replacing your purse. Try to get another fax of the receipt with the purse showing on it. That would be helpful in theis case!

Unfortunately, you are right about wire cutters...Having been in retail, I had to bust a guy who had ditched a stack of clothes under a display and we found wirecutters on him. He was arrested. We saw him ditching the clothes when he suspected he was being watched,(he was) and we were able to have him taken in by the Berkekey Police. But in this case that would be helpful to have the wirecutters.
