To Grumpy Pirate,

Yes the GPS tracks the bus. It's a CAD system simular to most E911 centers
Does that mean that management can access that to check on drivers?

We use a similar system at work for other applications, and it updates at whatever interval you want to set.

Big Wallaby and others in the past have discusses GPS. YES the Disney people can track where their busses are at any time. The GPS gives a general location thus letting them know if a driver is going from point A to Point B or adding Point C such as snacking and napping.

Churchy's right again.

The system can and does track buses (and therefore drivers). It's not a problem IF you are doing your job. (what a novel idea, doing what you were hired to do)

The GPS can only track the vehicle so there is no way for management to use GPS to know if that bus at the loading zone is being loaded by slow guests or that the driver is out getting coffee. Other companies use GPS to track their vehicles so it is not only Disney.

The irony is the people whining about the busses being monitored but fail to realize two things. First the other option is to have paid spotters and managers out there watching the busses. The second is that some maniac hijacks a bus and has the driver go to a desolate part of the swamps and kills everyone for their money for example. The second thing is very important to me and that safety is more important than a manager finding out your are having fun on company time.

Yeah, it sounds very similar to a protable unit we can install and track vehicles, packages and so forth. I got DW one for her birthday, and I have had one on my PDA for a number of years, but it dosn't have many bells and whistles as the newer models we have at work!!

Actually, with the CAD system, there is real time stats like guests loaded (being loaded) as it has an automatic passenger counter system, time on route (ahead or behind the anticipated route timing) and number of Wheelchairs on board. It also has a 911 button. Pushing this inconspicuous button summons all kinds of heavily armed LEO's and does some other things that I can't talk about in a public forum.

So that could be considered "added magic" for the SG's!! (should the need arise!)

Reminds me of our recent trip.. We were on the bus returning to POR from Epcot and seemed like a extra long ride. Next think I know we are passing the Nickelodeon hotel..
