SG needing some help

Post by Sunshine36616 » Wed Dec 26, 2007 2:37 pm

I just returned from a fantastic vacation from Walt Disney World. We were there for 6 days and the weather and cast members made the trip great. One small problem :(

I bought my friend a Jack Skellington purse from Villains in Vogue. I made several purchases there and had them all delivered to my room at the All Star Sports Resort. I picked them up two days later. When I got home here in Atlanta, I realized the purse still had a security sensor on it. It's the Sensor Matic Ink sensor. Of course I've lost my receipt.

I called local Disney stores and they don't use those tags. I called Villains in Vogue to get my receipt faxed to me so I can try another high end store that might have the same tags. The lady at Villains in Vogue said a good strong magnet would probably do the trick. I don't want to damage the bag though.

I got my reciept faxed as promised but it's only half the reciept and only shows one item and the total.

Any suggestions? I could just kick myself for not noticing it on the bag before we left.

Another completely different question...to where would I write a letter commending our driver on the magical express?

Thanks in advance guys :)

Having worked retail before, I also would suggest a good strong magnet. It sometimes requires a *little* force as well, but if you feel like you're really pulling the thing, then you probably don't have a strong enough magnet. (Also, that means you should stop pulling as you are about to break the glass bit that holds ink which will stain your item!)

There should be a phone number (starting with 407) on every one of your receipts which would be for Disney Parks shopping. They can shop all the stores at WDW and might have a suggestion (such as you sending the one you have to them, and them sending you a new, security tag free, item). I would think things like this have happened before and they may already have a process in place to deal with it.

As far as where to mail or email a compliment for a CM, I'm unsure, but generally it's best to go to Guest Relations before leaving the parks to take care of that sort of thing...

Glad you had a great time, though, and I hope others are able to fill in the obvious gaps my answer leaves!

Edited to add: I'm sorry, I misread who you wanted to compliment. Mears runs Magical Express. The number I'm finding for their Executive offices is (407) 422-4561...I'm also finding another number for a Mears "Representative" which is (407) 423-5566. Mears generally has a kinda bad name around WDW for various reasons, so I'm especially glad to hear that you had a great experience with them!

I've removed more than one of these tags without getting into the ink (no, none of it was stolen), just be careful ;)

As am I!

Interesting advice on the ink tags... My wife has something she bought that that might just help...

But glad you had a good time on DME. Nice to hear good about them from somewhere!

And I am one of the people who has spoken poorly of Mears, having had plenty of bad experiences in my short time as a Disney bus driver.

Sunshine, Dont know if you will check this, or you might have already gotten the tag off, but I work in merchandise at the Studios and I know how to get those tags off. Here is what you do. And you're going to have to trust me on this one- Okay, put on some rubber gloves to avoid staining your hands. Then take a piece of aluminum foil and cut a strip into it, enough to place between the two parts of the tag while covering the purse. Now get something like a screwdriver and pry the two pieces apart, or use your hands if you can. Yes, the glass will break, but no the ink wont go everywhere. For fun one day a fellow CM and I wanted to break one. No biggie. We had to shake the broken viles to get the ink out. Yeah, we were bored. But as long as the area directly below the tag is covered, over the merchandise, you should be just fine.
Oh, and if it's one of those clip on tags, a pair of wire cutters work just fine! =)

thanks so much for the responses!

Coffee do you think it would be possible to send it back to Villains in Vogue, have them remove it and send it back to me? I don't want my friend to be carrying around the bag and someone see a bit of ink on it and think she stole it.

For those who are wondering, here is the mechanism

I'm thinking you can freeze the bag, which in turn will freeze the ink. Then do the slip a protective barrier under the tag and break away.

Good wire cutters will work on this type too.

I spoke with customer service. I am mailing them the bag and they are taking the sensor off and returning it. Turn around time is about 2 weeks. They will reimburse me for shipping.

I guess that's the best I can hope for My friend is cool with her Christmas present being 3 weeks late, lol.

Thanks for everyone's help!!!

Along those lines, you could put the bag into a shallow water container (baking dish?) and freeze it, then if the ink burst while taking it off, it would hit the ice, and you could rinse it off quickly so it didn't come in contact with the material.
