Yeah, I have seen this site before, it is kinda creepy yet somehow attractive, kinda like a train wreck, you don't WANT to look, but you HAVE to.....

Wow, that's a rather comprehensive site. It even gives blame and credit where it is due. If a guest had a pre-existing condition and didn't belong on the attraction, or if they caused the problem, the site is good about getting that information out.

While not a site I would go to for fun, it's still interesting reading.

Wow. A lot of those are exactly why I go to Disney parks rather than those cheap-o carnival places. I know accidents occasionally happen even at Disney, but it seems a whole lot less likely. And the one that really got me was the roller coaster being stuck upside down. I've heard that at the Studios, the Tower of Terror and Rockin' Rollercoaster are on separate power supplies just to prevent that sort of thing!

I don't know who remembers it, but there was a time a few years ago when something happened on Big Thunder in DL and a man was killed when the front passenger car somehow went under the locomotive of the same train. It was eventually determined to be a parts supplier issue and not Disney's fault, but that was the only near-miss I've ever had at Disney--It was while I was stationed in Monterey, CA and I was at DL the weekend before and the weekend after, just like I was most weekends. Just a fluke that I didn't happen to be on that train. But, somehow, I just have a lot more faith in Disney than other places, I feel like the really stupid errors (uh, you mean I'm supposed to attach the carribiner to the rope for the free fall ride?!?) just don't happen at Disney.

The main thing to remember is we as CM's have to do NUMEROUS safety checklists each morning that we open the ride. The land alone has 6, Track Walk One, Track Walk Two, Boat Storage, Boat Dispatch, Ride-through, and Circle of Life. Each of them lists things we MUST do in order for the attraction to open. There are several items marked with asterisks, these are safety critical and if they don't check out the ride doesn't open. It may seem hokey but every morning we have to go through the ride, open EVERY exit door to make sure it can open and set off an intrusion alarm. We then must use EVERY phone and intercom to make sure they work. We test the PA in the different scenes to make sure it can be heard, and we test all E-Stop buttons/Station Stop Buttons. It may seem like a pain in the neck but from reading all of these stories, it sounds like it might just be worth it... ;)

"Hokey" my ass! I think my last post used too many words. I'll say it more simply: "I'm grateful as hell that you all go to all that trouble so I don't die!" (I'm not afraid of death, but I still have stuff to do...I'll schedule in death when I have time! :rolleyes :)

I loved the train tour how they said maintenance checks the safety devices to make sure they are in working order, and then they do a real world check. It was cool to see the Walt Disney come around the corner to the Fantasyland station and the guests on-board looking at us and wondering how we got on that other train. They also do pressure tests and all sorts of other fun, geeky train stuff.

Oh, if you're wondering what we were doing, the Walt Disney had to pass us so we got a red light. One of the tests is running the red light and making sure the auto-brake goes off.

Like Susislicker said, its a great read!! But like others, it only confirms WHY we go to DLR and WDW. If nothing else, when deciding to go on an attraction, safety is not what I think about, as I know WDW and DLR CM's do as much as possible to make it safe. Going to other parks and/or travelling carnivals...not so much!

AMEN! I take great pride in my safety checks. Walking through the attraction with no audio and checking doors/phones made me think "I can't believe I am finally here, after all of these years!" Plus when you are opening Circle you get to play with the automatic doors. That's really fun!!!
