Re: 3 Pop Warner teams booted from WDW
Not only that, but I don't know of ANY hotel chain that would react any differently. I was staying at a hampton inn while on the road for work once, and saw a couple being given the "boot" for loud noise,. (it was obviously a domestic dispute type of loud noise) I think WDW should explore being LESS accomadating to people that cause problems! My hats off to them for giving them the Heave-ho. I just hope CM's didn't get jammed up for doing it!!

As soon as I read the thread title I thought to myself "Bet they'll mention Baltimore". I wonder if any of the football players are related to these other gems of "Charm City"...Kwahati wrote:Leave it to a team from Baltimore...

Eh...I don't want to judge the poor lady who got the crap kicked out of her [see above story--I didn't need to because I saw it on the news the night it happened] but I'll judge her anyway because that's how I roll.dash1bravo wrote:As soon as I read the thread title I thought to myself "Bet they'll mention Baltimore". Basically: if you get on a bus, and there are a bunch of kids of another race, and you're in an area that has high levels of racial tension, and those kids are messing with you as soon as you get on the bus, then you don't sit down. You treat them like wild animals. Don't look them in the eye, and get away as soon as you can. Get off at the next stop without saying a word to them, get on a phone and call wherever you're going and tell them you're going to be late...in this area, people would understand "it was a bad situation on public transportation" as an excuse. These people made the mistake of talking back. The lady's husband admitted on the news that he said to this large group of girls "my 4 year old son has better manners than you!" I'm sure the kids said or at least thought, "oh yeah? we'll show you bad manners!" I'm not saying these people deserved to get the crap beat out of them--very few people deserve that--but that was avoidable by not being stupid. In this area, you know what you're risking. I know that, any time I flip the bird to a crappy driver (there are lots of those here) I'm risking getting shot...or at least a McDonald's shake getting thrown through my window. If I do it and then get shot, on some level, that's my own damn fault.
About "WDW overreacting": I don't think anybody's saying that. I know I don't want people like that ruining my vacation when I'm down there! I'm all for throwing the fools out. I'm just saying that they're probably returning home without an ounce of shame about the incident. I think it's in somebody's signature line around here: "Stupidity is usually a terminal condition!" That's true one way or another.

Jeeze! I have heard Baltimore is a place you don't want to go! This seals it for me!! This world is getting scarier everyday. Kid gangbanging an adult for just wanting to sit down on a bus?dash1bravo wrote:As soon as I read the thread title I thought to myself "Bet they'll mention Baltimore". We are not talking about an event like the Rose Parade where the kids have months to raise money. With the Rose Parade the kids do not have to spend money on amusement park fees, hotels, etc. When kids get to go to the Soap Box Derby they are not told they have to stay at certain hotels, buy certain entertainment packages, etc.
Disney makes off each kid in cheerleading and Pop Warner about $350 and can go way up if they are from Alaska, Hawaii or other out of the way places. One team from Connecticut rode on the bus home for 20 hours. It is not uncommon for middle class schools to have to go into debt or beg parents to donate for the trip. From what I read they have a week or less to get the money.
It was a group of 14-16 year olds who cause the fight. Disney was right to boot. What were they doing up at 1 am and unsupervised or did it get out of control despite adults supervising.
It is sad that the babies were kicked out of the hotel and did not get the rest of their disney trip. The problem is that them adults did not properly supervise them kids. It is sad that good kids missed out on their fun but it was the adults who should have had them kids in their room at 10 pm so they could be ready for games and visiting the parks.

If you're going into this league, I'm fairly sure they know that there is a possibility that they may be invited (or whatever) to these games at the end of the season. Wouldn't it then make sense to start fundraising as soon as the season begins? Then that way, even if you don't go to Disney World, you can treat your team to some sort of end of season celebration, or you could have the team vote on it and save it for the potential trip the next year.mechurchlady wrote:We are not talking about an event like the Rose Parade where the kids have months to raise money. . . . . . And yes, I agree, it is sad that little kids who had nothing to do with the incident were "yanked" out of their beds, but now every other team and family member involved in that tournament knows that Disney REALLY isn't kidding when they say zero tolerance.

Have any of the news stories actually said how many people of what team were fighting, not that it really matters.

Re: 3 Pop Warner teams booted from WDW
So...I just read that article, and it's not about the fight like I was assuming it was... It's about how much money it costs to go to Disney. Uh...gee...I had no F'in clue that I spend a couple G's to go by myself to WDW and more than four times that to go with my two roommates. Of course it's expensive...here's the thing: I don't care about your "fund raising hardships". My high school debate team was only given about $2000/year for my first two years of school, and starting my junior year, we were completely unfunded! And we were the top team in the state every one of those years and in the top 20 in the country at nationals every one of those years! (I know that last bit sounds weird to brag about, but it's not just one team per state at Nats...most of the teams that rank in the top 20 from each state will go to Nats...) But in order to be competitive on the national level, we had to go from Washington State to compete at Berkley and Stanford in Cali. as well as New York, not to mention numerous trips around Washington, Oregon and Idaho as well as, of course, Nationals--wherever they decided to hold them in a given year. Oh, and then there's debate camp that generally costs between 5 and 10 thousand per person each summer!
At the end of the day, you know what you're signing up for when you go into it. I signed up every year for a full time job of fund raising as well as competing in sports, debate and my school load. You get what you bargain for. If you can't go somewhere due to budget constraints, don't bitch to me about it. Just don't go. What moron takes out several thousand dollar loans with no plan for repayment to go to an optional thing like a sports competition? These people are too stupid for words and they're raising their children to be just as stupid!
Oh...and the clencher that makes me really love this biased-ass story? There's a bit near the end where a team is explaining why they have to raise so much money: It cost them $26000 to go to WDW for the Championships, and $30000 to go to regionals! Yeah, that's right, the national competition that they're bitching about the price of is less expensive than going to the competition they're closer to!
WDW should keep on keepin' on. It's their job to make money for their shareholders and there's not a doubt in my mind that they give every opportunity to the teams to fund raise... Not to mention all the other fund raising methods the teams should be doing year round (I sold candy bars, Entertainment books, magazine subscriptions, christmas gift-cards, we did a bingo night, we even did a dinner theater night!) If teams are woefully under-prepared, it's due to the ineptitude of their leadership. And if it's too hard to fund raise in the inner-city, I've got a hint for you: DON'T LIVE IN THE G*D DAMNED INNER-CITY!!!
I repeat a sentiment I expressed for different reasons earlier in this thread: "I f'ckin' hate idiots!"
