Dang but that poster sounds bitter.

I'm curious about the "more deaths at Disney" stat. My first thought was, since Disney has way more guests, of course there'd be more deaths. Anyone know what the figure is on deaths per number of visitors?

Maybe Universal is better at cover ups :)

also, when you hit an estop on popeye or ripsaw, the entire ride drains, because that is the fastest way to stop the ride vehicles. when you hit an estop on splash? nothing happens. the belts stop, but that doesnt cause a free-floating boat to stop. also, ive heard of numerous disney instances where cast members are allowed into the ride track with ride vehicles still in operation. universal would never think of that. they always power down the attractions then lock out/tag out. also, talking to numerous disney cast members, it is not not required for the cm's to check lapbars. they now visually check, or ask the guest to pull up on the bars themselves. go check. go ride space mountain, and you will see that they do not pull up on the bars (even with the little handles) and they leave empty seats with the lapbars up. at universal, the team member would get in trouble for that.

everest doesnt check, space moutain, coaster. every ride with a harness does not get checked. who doesnt care now?

i love how this one video makes universal seem like the worst place in the world, when in fact, more deaths have occured at disney then at universal. its like disney never has anything wrong with it. if the disney freaks out there (like the poster above me) find somethign wrong with disney, they supress it in their mind and pretend it doesnt exist, then point out bad qualities about the competition. get a life and realize disney makes mistakes too. omg i cant believe i said that.

repeat.

disney. makes. mistakes.

nope, hell didnt raise up.
Calm down. No one made any derogatory remarks about Universal that I saw before you posted this. They just pointed out that there probably should have been a camera at that locale for safety sake. You did not need to go off on Disney or the posters here for that. Let's have a nice discussion about all theme Parks and how fun they are and where cameras need to be without being snarky. No need to get heated about comparisons in theme Parks and get defensive. We are all here at this site because we love the CMs and the workers (what ever they are called) at other good Theme Parks. Remember this site is on the side of the CMs and workers NOT the SG who jumped in after his hat. Don't take it so personally and that we think Disney is better and can do no wrong. Read the posts here and you will see otherwise..... :) Speaking of maturity read your own post "I pretty much hate you people." Okaaaaaaayyyy! As you said, if you hate it here so much, don't come here. No one is forcing your hand to click on the mouse...

Once in the not so distant past (last Saturday), a family of three were riding a boat ride called Pirates of the Caribbean. Upon entering the scene where the three pirates are on the left in a row singing and playing instruments (fire scene?), our boat was stopped in the middle of the canal by something coming up and obstructing our forward movement. This appeared to be some sort of safety device. A CM made very quick announcements to other CMs (sounded like power down/power up) and someone else spieled for us to stay in the boats and we'd be moving soon. Then, the ride restarted and the obstruction was gone and we moved forward. Sounds like Disney figured out a way to stop movement of boats without the time consuming draining of the ride. Seriously, these things have tons of water in them, I can't imagine they drain very fast.
That's called a boat stop. We have one in the Land as well. It is used right before the switch track while the switch is in motion. What it sounds like was that they were removing the boat in front of you, as I know Pirates' storage area is in the prison scene. The boat stop at the Land is located in Barn Theater 2, where you watch the short film before going into the greenhouses. What happens is the CM TAGS OUT and goes back to the panel. They wait for the boat in front of the boat to be removed to pass the stop and then they put it up. They then turn off the ride pumps, switch the track, turn on the storage pumps, turn back on the ride pumps, and lower the stop. After the affected boat passes the stop is raised to keep the unaffected boat behind it from entering the storage area. After the boat has entered the storage area. The process is reversed and all is well. The flume isn't drained because it takes 30 minutes to drain and about 4 hours to fill. If we drained it for every E-stop we would never be open. I've never even seen the entire ride drained. I've only seen the load/unload area drained because maint. had to replace a sensor. They close off the dams to partially drain the attraction.

Has a boat with people on board ever been misrouted and taken out of service?

If it has, you could charge them for a "Behind the magic" tour!!

I'm sure it has happened, but it would be very rare. Most likely the boat would just be pushed back onto the ride path. I have had a CM raise to boat stop under a boat. Luckily no one was on the boat as we were beginning to do boat storage at the end of the day. But it sure scared the crap out of me up at dispatch when I got an auto E-stop and all the alarms started going off. It's like magic, whenever I am at dispatch something bad happens. Hehe, maybe that's a sign for me to go to another attraction. LOL!
