Re: SGs Trying to be Lawyers

A few weeks ago, on the Railroad, we had a lawyer cause problems when a CM informed him that he needed to fold his stroller before getting on the train. The guy argued and asked why, and the CM explained that we are, in fact, required by law to have all strollers on the train folded. (unless they are in the wheelchair section) So this SG starts going off on the CM, saying that he was a lawyer, he's never heard of such a law, that he wasn't going to fold the stroller, and that he wanted to talk to a manager.

I was on the train behind that one, and we had to stop the train and wait for several minutes for the train ahead of us to leave the station. Thankfully the situation was resolved when the lawyer's mom told him to not worry about it, and just fold the stroller and get on the train, and the lawyer did, and the trains continued as usual.

Amazing...

You've obviously never heard the joke about the woman who bet a guy she could pee higher on a wall then he could.

I lived next door to a lawyer who turned out to be a real weasel. Any time he got into a confrontation he'd play the "I'm a lawyer" card to intimidate people. We had done an addition to the house and had a civil engineer do a survey. The lawyer was quite surprised to find the property line was about two feet closer to his house than he thought.

A few years later I decided to build a fence. Not wanting to deal with his crap I planned to put in on our side of the property line. I spent two hours digging around the property line trying to find the engineer's stake. I finally figured out weasel boy had pulled it up. Luckily, there were two bench marks in the street so I was able to measure from them and find the line.

I started building the fence and weasel boy showed up making a stink. I told him it was on my side of the line and he was damn lucky I didn't sue him to have another survey done. His big mouth slammed shut and he beat a hasty retreat.

Buuuuwwwwwwhahahahahahaha!!

I hope he sues... unless Anaheim is covered by the Ninth Circus Court. Ninth Circuit just might rule in his favor. Otherwise, I hope he sues.

It would be surprising to see any ADA suit get that far but stranger things have happened.

In my line of work, I deal with lots of lawyers. Usually the conversation goes something like "Did you actually read the AUP that goes along with the contract? No, you probably should then." They never call back. I did have a customer once who claimed he went to law school tell me I was violating his right to free speech for not letting him spam. I told him that 1) it was impossible for us to completely keep him from using the Internet to send spam, that we could only control our network and 2) we're not the federal government, so that didn't apply to us. He couldn't argue with me and moved on to spam from a different network after I terminated him.

I love to deal with lawyers who attempt to intimidate me. When I took the CPA Exam I got a 93 on the Business Law portion, and I worked for 17 years for the Federal Court system.

Hey, jerks are jerks no matter who they are. But granted, a lot of them seem to gravitate to the legal profession.

I was paid a wonderful complement talking to a man who sings in my chorus after a show Sunday. He found out I was an attorney and said, "You don't fit what I think of as a lawyer." I smiled and said, "Thank you!" :D:

Oh, and I'm not ADA expert, but I think JugglingFreak's right on target: the requirement is "reasonable accomodation" to those with disabilities, not additional privilege.

YES! I knew there was another Buddhist on here! I am a half buddhist, if there is such a thing. Of course there is. Buddhism says you must be exactly what you are at any given moment. Just be.....OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! ;)

And even tho I am not (yet, and hope never) in a wheelchair, I use the disabled stall, because I cannot move around very well in those narrow ones. My back cannot twist very well. The disabled stalls give me the room to be able to move enough to turn and sit. I get dirty looks from some, but I just explain not all disabilities can be seen... I hope I NEVER have to end up in a wheelchair, but if GOD or Buddha so deems it, I will make the best of it.
