Actually, no. I can be startled easily, but afraid, no.

Actually the place I am working, and am frequently the only (living) person in for hours at a time, is haunted. Doesn't bother me. I just made a deal, he doesn't disturb me and I won't disturb him.

Actually this is the second place I have worked where I spent hours at a time alone that has been reliably reported to be haunted. I feel the odd presence, but have never been bothered too much.

Ghosts don't bother me, People do.

Big Wallaby wrote:There is a clown magician in Portland who uses being a clown for his own personal gain. He has a little red dot on his driver's license, and when he gets pulled over, as the cop is looking at his license, he sneaks his red nose on, so that when the cop looks back up at him to ask "What's this?!?" he replies, "You couldn't possibly give a ticket to a clown, could you?"

I was with it one of the times that it worked.
That gag's featured in a Penn & Teller book, credited to another magician, whose name escapes me at the moment. He actually cut out a small red foam ball nose and used rubber cement to attach it to his DL and his passport, and has received many free first class upgrades when traveling.

Somewhere I've got a picture from my clowning adventures, but I won't post it here for fear of scaring Susi. :o:

I lived in a house that was haunted and have had experiences with those that have passed to the other side. Some experiences are cool. Though the ghost that was in the house was not a nice ghost. I sensed an anger and bad vibe in the room I had for my bedroom. I would hear footsteps walking back and forth on the roof at night and feel an ice cold chill in the place I was sitting when the whole house was warm. He called my name one night. He said Susan. NO one calls me by that name, it is too formal to me. I saw his face once and it scared the bejeezus outa me. My dog used to bark at him all the time and nothing (?) was ever there. My folks did not believe me, but he was there all right. I had a medium come and check out the room and she told me the guy had died on the spot the bedroom was built over and his spirit was trapped. I rearranged the furniture in my room and he stopped bugging me. True story. I lived in another house where a guy had died in bed. He was a very strong young man, a runner. We rented the place and the master bedroom was where he died. I always felt really safe there. It was real protected feeling, like I was being watched over. No bad vibes. He was a good guy. :)

I like your last remark...that's me to a T... I like people that I know (or get to know) on an individual basis, but the human race makes me cry for it!

I'm on the same page. I'm not really afraid, especially since the ghost at that hotel was not thought to be at all malicious. But at the same time, why tempt the fates? Had the dog with me, never saw the ghost, unlike almost every other night manager they ever had... So it only makes sense to keep the dog with me. It would get a little freaky during the winter, but that was because the hotel had a lot in common with the hotel from The Shining.

It was funny, though, that I would occasionally get calls from people staying on the second floor in the old wing asking me to call tell the people in the room above them to keep the noise down... Thing is, the level above the second floor in the old wing is where the brothel was hidden. Those rooms have no windows and are therefore not valid hotel rooms. They were all gutted long ago and have been used sparingly for storage. Also, there weren't any keys to get up there on the manager on duty's key ring! Whenever I would get one of those calls from a guest, I'd go up there and walk around with my dog and then come back down to the desk. Usually, I'd ask the room that called me, in the morning, if there was any further disturbance and, invariably, they'd say "no, thank you very much!"

The only other thing that was weird there was that periodically my dog would point at empty spaces or perfectly normal walls. Sometimes she would even nip my hand to get my attention and then point! Now, I know it's hard to explain to people who haven't met my dog, but she's very smart (Australian Shepherd) and, aside from a little silliness (rolling in the snow and such), she doesn't do illogical things. If she pointed, I'm sure there was something there. And yet, I'm the only night manager, as far back as the story goes, who never saw the ghost...

I have seen/experienced some strange things in reportedly "Haunted "places-The Whaley House in San Diego being one of them. My Patients sometimes tell me some interesting stories of being "visited" as well.
Keep the stories coming! :D:
