Segway Users to Sue Disney

Okay, now I want one of those. If my back is gonna fail me and I have to rent one of those DL wheelchairs, that ain't gonna work for me...This new device on the other hand, yes indeed! I could definitely get around the parks that way and not have to sniff butts all day long, being at that level while sitting in a wheelchair. ewwwwwww..... Can you imagine if you were in a chair and the path through Adventurewland at DL was literally packed and not moving and the guy in front of you let one rip...OMG!

I am hoping that my back will make it through the Christmas trip without having to rent a chair. We will just take it slowly and rest alot, go back to the hotel for naps and the pool for a swim and sit in the hot tub there. I am going to try to schedule a massage over at the Grand Californian for my back about midway through the trip and then maybe one on the night before we leave to come home. That should help loosen all the muscles and help the nerves in my back to calm down. I will NOT be able to walk all day, every day for 7 days straight without some help.

Being a person that uses a ECV due to mobility issues I have to say How is a Segway going to help me? Standing up on one of those things all day would kill me. Some people will sue anyone anytime for anything.

You brought up what a LOT of people think. There is a "discussion" on (brand x) board that some posters lean toward the silly in their line of reasoning.

I can see that the only outcome will probably be that WDW and DLR will stop the tours that feature the Segway, to avoid the Litagees from using that fact to win their case!

That discussion also includes posts talking about how someone can stand with no problem but can't walk a long ways and sometimes can't sit for a long time.

I hope not as I really want to go on at least one of those tours. I doubt the litagees can use the fact that Disney has CMs that use Segways and offer tours with them to win. Segways are not certified medical devices and the manufacturer has said they won't get them certified as such. As they aren't medical devices Disney has every right to refuse access to anybody with one. A judge will see that Disney already exceeds accessibility requirements and hopefully throw the case out of court.

Also anybody who actually stops to think about it will see how dangerous allowing a bunch of people on Segways into the parks will be. Untrained people on ECVs are dangerous enough but Segways place the user way higher than everybody else so the user will have a harder time seeing people, especially children, who dart in front of them. There are so many distractions in a Disney park I could easily see a Segway running some little kid over.

I have ridden them, I think they are great, but even after the short two hour training and tour at WDW, my (and DW)'s legs and feet were starting to cramp. Along with the others in our group! We had to dismount and flex. The point I am making is tht if they are disabled to the point that they cannot walk, but can stand, they still will not be able to do it for very long. I think they simply want to ride them and are using the excuse to sue WDW. WE took the late tour and as we were making out way back to the starting point, we went through light crowds, and even then we had to be VERY careful we had some children run in front of several riders ahead of us, and they had to come to a stop, not easy, and you cannot "stand still" on them, you are making little movements. The trainers DID tell us that it took a lot more training and practice to fully operate it. AND we were using the ones that the speed was "locked down" so we couldn't go very fast!! (DW and I STILL want to buy one!)

As to WDW and DLR doing away with the tours, that is just my opinion. BUT you will notice that some of the abusrd things that we deal with in life are the direct result of civil litigation, and companies response to them!

My advice to you is take the tour!! They are great!! and fun as all Heck!!
(the down side is you will want to get one!!)
