Big Wallaby wrote:The other group that gets me riled up is Westboro Baptist Church, where the belief is that God hates America, Jews, gays, our armed forces, pet owners (okay, so I made that one up), and everyone else who is not in their single congregation. Somehow, they have the belief that God enjoys sending people to hell. They would like to believe the world hates them for being Christian, but in truth I hate them for their gospel of hate, anger, bitterness and such a reactionary stance to the world around them. Even when Jesus said very painful things, it was not in hate. Even in the times he showed anger, there was no hate... I mean, c'mon, he even called one of the Apostles "Satan", an Apostle who became one of the best apologists at the time. I guarantee He didn't hate that Apostle at that time.
I scratch my head at a church (and I use the term loosely in this case) who would have such websites as godhatesfags.com, godhatesamerica.com, and etc. I don't suggest visiting the preceding websites, by the way, unless you want to ruin your whole day. Even if you believe these things, what good does it do to spew that hatred all over the internet? If you believe as I do in rebirth through the embracing of Christ and His death and resurrection, then it should sadden you to see people not embrace it. But these people celebrate it. So regarding people of that bent, I say damn them to Hell! May they burn for the vile hatred they spew and their twisting of the Gospel to make them feel better about themselves. The day you use Christianity, my belief, to look down on others, I will say that about you, too.
These morons protested here in Greensboro a couple of years ago outside the Southern Baptist Convention. I took great pleasure in driving by them slowly with a certain finger raised. I'll say this though, if they create a website named godhatesdisney.com, I'm going off the deep end!

Please edit your post so they don't get any ideas. I am sure they already think that as it is. They had some groups come up to Oregon and protest at a soldier's funeral... a biker gang came in at the same time and drowned them out :D:
Last summer, I was at the air show in Portland and there was a plane crash. As we're walking out, some idiot was spewing how this was God punishing America... I proceeded to tell him what a little-minded bigot he must be to believe that killing one person was punishing an entire country... If I lived somewhere besides Oregon, I probably wouldn't have heard about it, much less seen it happen. How, pray tell, would I be punished by something I didn't even know occured?
I guess someone has to believe it...
I have a feeling that if we are being punished for something, we'll know it. Historically, God doesn't go for subtlety when it comes to stuff like that.
The other thing that disgusts me about this group is that they make money off their so-called ministries. They push people until they push back, then they sue the pants off the people they are picketting against.
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

I love that song! And I agree with you, Syndrome. The Bible seems pretty clear to me that Jesus invites
all to come. But He also loves us too much to leave us the way we were when we first came to Him.

I doubt they'll make a site like that one, AngelEyes, at least not anytime soon. I say that because I doubt they will want to publicly announce their hatred of something that one of the groups they protested publicly hates. They protested the SBC and didn't the SBC protest and tell their members to boycott Disney because of, I believe, Gay Days a few years back?
Westboro Baptist gives a bad name to Christianity in general. They drive a lot more people away from the Lord they they bring to Him. When they die they will be quite surprised to find their afterlife to be a LOT warmer than they were expecting, if you know what I mean.
Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

This is about Westboro. They are normal people who are devout in their beliefs. They act like any other groups of people except they believe that they are among the few people going to heaven and being saved.
They believe that American is evil because it condones homosexuality. Anyone who condones homosexuality is a sinner condemned, unclean and hell bound.
I have an extreme headache unto tears and try not to swear here but that group brings me to tears and righteous anger beyond anything else. Beware the false preachers and antichrists. I so want to cuss and yell but what good will it do.

My problem with them comes not from that belief, but the way in which they present it. For instance, they have a question/answer column, and I couldn't read more than a couple where people came with serious questions and were ridiculed for asking such a stupid question, for their grammar or other things, and at that point they lost me (which was very close to the beginning).
My other problem with them is having a couple friends who, due to Christians loving on them, threw away the homosexual life, and while I am not going to condone homosexuality, at the same time I am not going to hate the people who either 1) have chosen such way of life, or 2) were driven into it by life circumstances, often including abuse which created a distrust of the opposite gender.
Watching that video left such an awful taste in my mouth... Especially at the end where they're in church, gleefully singing "God hates the USA". Insert my view that they should move anywhere else in the world that is better.
Please.

See, I KNEW I could keep this going!
I agree with Wallaby - the biggest problem with that group is their insistance that not only is everyone who is not them evil, but their divine mission in life is to make sure that eveyone else KNOWS they think they're evil. Their insistance that it's not only their right but their mission to protest at soldiers' funerals, telling the grieving families that God killed their loved one because he or she was evil, then suing the family if anyone interferes with their "right" to protest, makes me sick!
As someone said previously, my problem with the "boycott Disney" lady was not that she had firmly held beliefs. My problem with her was that she was so narrow minded as to believing that learning about another culture would somehow make her less devout. It makes me think that she's so insecure in her own religious beliefs that just the thought of even hearing about another's would make her denounce her own.

Yeah, I doubt it too. I was just joking! :p: You are right though, the SBC did call for a protest of Disney a few years. I remember it because there was this moron at the church I went too then that talked about it. He couldn't believe I would take my family too such a place. If I'm not mistaken, the main reason for the boycott was because Disney was offering insurance to any same sex partners of its employees.

I am not sure of the source of this quote, but it is very good:
