Re: Video of Pluto chasing a kid
Maybe they were yawning, did not look like that to me but then again guests do weird things at time. I was rooting for pluto also. I thought characters usually have a CA or someone there to help with the crowds and remember seeing some sort of CM with most costumed characters.

I was only at DL once, but I have read that characters do not have CAs. Not sure. If not, maybe the CA was calling security.
all the characters (including "face" characters) have handlers (at least that's been my experience at dl...and i've been going there for a very looooonnnnng time)

Seems unlikely. If you've ever been kicked in the nuts, running isn't exactly the first idea that pops into your head.

Well, the thing is, Pluto is usually played by a female. So, in theory the kid could have kicked Pluto there, and while it would've hurt it wouldn't hurt quite as badly as if it was a male.SkullRocker wrote:Seems unlikely. Pluto is in the height range where he is equally played by both males and females.lady ulrike wrote:Well, the thing is, Pluto is usually played by a female. So, in theory the kid could have kicked Pluto there, and while it would've hurt it wouldn't hurt quite as badly as if it was a male.
There is hardly ever a ratio of one greeter to one character unless you see Mickey & Minnie together. (Then it would be 1:2, anyway) The correct job title is either greeter or character host/hostess. (Sorry, my pet peeve is the handler word, it makes me feel like the characters are Ringling Bros animals).
Characters do play with kids and that does include running. I have seen it many times first hand. Just because you see running doesn't mean it was something bad.
There's my 2 cents on the video.

Re: Video of Pluto chasing a kid
My biggest interest is in the two Cast Members who seem to be just standing there. There's the girl in the Emporium costume, and to her left is a man in what looks like either business casual or possible a PhotoPass guy. Although if this is several years old, it would be a Kodak guy. In any case, he appears to be someone who works at Disney. But they don't seem at all surprised by what was going on. I know if I saw someone from the Garden Grill chasing some kid around the Soarin' Rotunda, I'd be all over the place, asking if we should call Security or Managers or something. I'd be stepping in in some way. Controlling guests or protecting Pluto. I don't know.
My dad's theory is that it's a set up. That it might have been Pluto's last day of work or something, and he got his friend and her kid to stop by to create this crazy scene and go out in style. It still doesn't explain why the other Cast Members are just hanging out while this goes on, and it doesn't explain why we still don't have the beginning of the incident. If I were going to do something like that, I'd also talk a different friend to film it from the beginning, discreetly for posterity. But I'm weird like that.
Anyways... that's my thoughts (and my dad's).
elle.

Re: Video of Pluto chasing a kid
When ever I was in an area with a costumed character there was a CA or at least some CM keeping an eye on the character. Even if a character did not have a CA then there was security somewhere watching and they are everywhere. I believe the youtube was the first to publish the video and now it is everywhere but conveniently editted to omit the opening scene.
I wonder why someone who works as a CA or even someone who is familiar with the parks. We at SGT have gotten lots of feed back from guests, CMs and people who are familar with characters.
Did Polar make the news?

Re: Video of Pluto chasing a kid
Ok, Here's my narration.
Pluto is chasing his little brother. The mom is the mom of both kids and Pluto. She tells Pluto to knock it off. He says you knock it off, while they are pointing at each other. Pluto trips on curb. Then goes up to the people at the end, points and says that's my mom.
No I am not a writer. I do work for the NYS Lottery department, so that's fiction in of itself. Oh yeah BABY, just a dollar and a dream. HA!

You think circus animal, I think CIA field operative (like Sydney or Jack Bristow). Go figure.
