Saving Mr Banks

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.
Forum rules
At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

I thought he was great in Sideways. I gotta pull out the DVD and watch it again.

Giamatti's been awesome in just about everything. He always stood out to me, even in small parts -- like as the hotel bellhop in My Best Friend's Wedding, who first tells Julia Roberts she can't smoke in the hallway and then ended up sharing the smoke. Very gifted actor.

I wish I knew the words to say why I think this, but, I feel he was one of the more important members of the cast. He was who we all could identify with, quiet, unassuming man just doing his job and contributing in a way unknown to all the "important" people. He was just a driver, but, a man of knowledge, experience and tenderness. I wish there was some way he could get some award, but, like his character, he will be lost in the spotlight.

and now some Disneyland thoughts.
the wrong generation charactors were used in the film.
in the mid 60's their would have been 2nd generation costumes,
then the generation they used in the film. which I think were 5th or 6th gen.
I think that either they had no usable 2nd gen charactors or they wanted to use fairly modern ones. but the mickey I saw in the film had to be a 5th or 6th gen setup.
also, none of the toys Walt left in travers room exsisted at that time.

The problem with getting old is that you end up with a whole bunch of factoids in your head that you think maybe you heard somewhere and what you remember is fuzzy to boot. In this case, I have a very vague memory that when Mickey and Goof appeared in "That Thing You Do" the selection of the 1990's versions was deliberate so as not to create confusion with kids going to the parks today... or something like that. Maybe. If I remember correctly.

Possibly.

Hubby and I like to go up to Solvang Country and visit the Sideways locations, and one of our waitresses from AJ Spurrs was in the movie :). Going to The Hitching Post is on our list, too.

American Splendor and Lady in the Water are other movies I like him in.

Corey, yes there are lots of little goofs in the Disneyland scenes. IMDB lists being able to see the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" attraction as being visible when it was not open in 1961. Jingles the horse (Get on the horse, Pam!) apparently was painted in the 1961 colors, but the other horses used to be NOT painted white and were colors such as gray and brown back then. I actually remember them! :old:

A fascinating pair of articles on the movie vs. reality, from Disney historian Jim Korkis:

Fact and Fiction in Saving Mr. Banks, Part One
Fact and Fiction in Saving Mr. Banks, Part Two
