Charles Durning Will Not Be Down For Breakfast

Post by hobie16 » Tue Dec 25, 2012 10:04 am

Charles Durning, the two-time Oscar nominee who was dubbed the king of the character actors for his skill in playing everything from a Nazi colonel to the pope, died Monday at his home in New York City. He was 89.

There are so many things I've seen him in, and I've always liked his portrayals. Doc Hopper in The Muppet Movie is certainly one of those, but the part I seem to always think of for him is the governor in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. I haven't seen the movie in more than a two decades, but I loved his routine about "dance a little sidestep" as he turned quickly under his hat.

RIP

I loved him playing a different governor, Pappy O'Daniel, in O Brother Where Art Thou. Talented guy.
