(A nice German family is checking into the hotel around 10:30 at night.)
Father: “We have to be up early tomorrow. We’re driving to Disneyland tomorrow.”
Me: “Wow, that’s a heck of a drive. When do you think you’ll get there?”
Father: “I don’t know. I was hoping mid-afternoon.”
Me: “I think you might want to check your directions. California is 2,000 miles away.”
Father: “But it’s just the other side of the country.”
Me: “The US is a big country, sir.”[/INDENT]

He's probably thinking I-80 is a full on autobaun with no speed limits.

Even at an average of 100 MPH they ain't making it by mid afternoon!hobie16 wrote:He's probably thinking I-80 is a full on autobaun with no speed limits.

Depends on how early they get up. Anyone else picturing National Lampoon's Vaction?

I like to drive fast, but this seems a little excessive. Did you look out the window to see if Grandma was strapped to the roof?

Since 2,000 @ 100 MPH = 20 hrs, You can't go to bed at all if you want to get there by mid afternoon. ;)GaTechGal wrote:Depends on how early they get up. Anyone else picturing National Lampoon's Vaction?
Yes, but I said 100 MPH average. Even in the video the average was more like 200 KPH, and once you factor in rest breaks, well I don't think 100 is too far off. It would be a lot of fun to see a whole German family on a performance bike, though. :D:hobie16 wrote:100 MPH is slow lane only speeds on...

Rest breaks?!?! All you need is a Motorman's Friend and a case of Cheetos and it's non-stop city.

The kids went through the Cheetos like locust. All I could see in the rear view mirror was an orange cloud in the back seat.WEDFan wrote:And how did that work out when travelling with your family???
I don't use a Motorman's Friend as I discovered years ago that a car door held open at the correct angle while traveling at the appropriate speed creates an excellent airfoil that will remove liquids from the interior of the car.
Basically, set cruise control to appropriate speed, open door to correct angle, unzip, insert liquid waste removal system into air stream, open internal valve.
Easy peasy.
