Go ahead and tell me that he doesn't resemble that old Indian that would cry about litter back in the 70's. If Cowboy and Indian shows ever return...he has a second life career. :D:

My wife said Stephen is really beat up. Bad back, knees bothering him, etc. Dude can still rock though.

The evening turned into quite a rock god experience. She ran into our neighbor's cousin and while they were talking Mick Fleetwood walked up. Turns out Mick and the cousin are dating. Oh yeah, Mick lives with his mum.

Today we hopped into a 1976 Cessna to fly to Urbana. Why is 1976 of any interest? You can see by the colors it's the Bicentennial model.

Image

The local small plane in Urbana has a small museum where they are restoring a B-17 from the ground up.

That's a B-17 G. (I'm pretty sure)
We've got one just like here from the 390th Bomber Group.
If you're ever in the 'hood',check it out.

The B-17 is my favorite plane of all time. One day (and with enough bricks) I want to build a model out of Lego.

Hobie Goes To The Mainland - Day 3

Airshow

Image

The airfield is literally a field. Grass runway and taxi areas. The runway is marked with large green cones so the pilots don't land too close to the hangers

We got there early to set up the sound system. 24 speakers stretched over a half mile. Lotsa cable to lay out and recover.

About 800 people came out. Very casual atmosphere. A couple of blue grass pickers played music between flights. Lots of kids running around. This was the fortieth year the show as been held.

Have you seen his Burger King commercial? Apparently they turned him loose in a store for a day and shot video of everything. There was some pretty funny stuff in the final cut.

Hobie Goes To The Mainland - Day 4

Just hung out.

Hobie Goes To The Mainland - Day 5

Helped a friend of a friend wire up a backup generator system.

Hobie Goes To The Mainland - Day 6

Air Force Museum

The original plan was to get inside of some planes. A change in management scotched that. The alternate plan was to get a tour of back of the house areas including the restoration area. No one is normally allowed there.

First stop were the climate controlled vaults where clothing and documents are stored. Lotsa really cool stuff including the original Ironman suit.

Image

Actually, it's a early pressure suit. The bands on the arms kept them from exploding in low pressure environments.

In the restoration area we saw the Memphis Belle.

Image

After that it was over to the museum. Go here to see all my pics. I shot maybe five percent of what's in the museum. Depending on level of interest, it could take a minimum of two days to really see everything they have. They'll be adding another hangar in a few years to display more of what they've got in storage.
