Scam Telephone Calls
Watch out for scam phone calls. I just got a call from a restricted number from someone saying they were with the "Federal Government" and that I was eligible for a $3000 grant. I smelled bullsh&% so I hung up and 2 seconds on Google told me what I already was pretty certain of, it's a scam.
That's just one of many, many telephone scams so be careful. Never give out your Social Security Number, credit card/bank account numbers, etc. to an unknown caller.

Re: Scam Telephone Calls
I once got a call from a 5-digit number (9-1822) that turns out to be some scam group in South Asia trying to get access to your computer. I wonder how many computers they've manipulated from gullible people.

I have seen that wierd kind of number pop up on my phone. I never answer phone numbers I do not know. I just thought it was strange since it was not a complete number.TiggerHappy wrote:I once got a call from a 5-digit number (9-1822) that turns out to be some scam group in South Asia trying to get access to your computer. So is that some computer in Asia calling random numbers hoping it gets a modem or something?

Re: Scam Telephone Calls
This all reminds of the radios at work. I laugh when I get the text messages from on the nextel at work. "Message from Suntrust bank, Your debt card is locked please call 888-xxx-xxxx"
I am dying to call this number and acted like I believe them and give them some fake information to see what happens. I just do not want whoever it is to actualy have my real phone number.

I have caller id on my TV. I don't even have to get out of my chair to get the phone if I don't recognize the number. I bet plenty of the calls being made now are about the November elections.

Re: Scam Telephone Calls
I've been trying to sell a boat on Craigslist for the last few months. Every time I renew the ad I get a flurry of scam artists that want to pay via PayPal. I now send them the below and ask them to answer the questions to confirm they're a real person.
1) Your employer
2) Your make and model of car
3) The types and names of any pets you have
4) Boxers or briefs
5) Your favorite breakfast: cereal, pancakes, or eggs
6) Your iPod playlist
7) Has it been a long since you’ve rock ‘n’ rolled
8) Has it been a long since you’ve done the stroll
9) Mac or PC
10) Do you walk to school or do you carry your lunch
11) Ginger or Mary Ann
None have responded.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Re: Scam Telephone Calls
My grandmother regularly gets the "you have a virus and we need immediate access to your computer" call. I suppose the scammers would have better luck getting her to comply if she actually had a computer... :D:

Re: Scam Telephone Calls
I haven't gotten scam calls in 12 yrs. since landline was dropped. I never answer cell #s with no name or pic attached, & I only give out my actual cell # to those I truly trust. Others are given my 3rd cell which I might check every 2 months.
