Again, though, we might know this, but does the average visitor to the parks? It isn't as much about what is, but rather what guests might think. And, we're all gathered here at a site dedicated to the idea that there are a lot of guests who have no clue. :D:TiggerHappy wrote:Don't costumed characters usually have a CM escort with them? That would be an easy way to tell if a wandering character's official or not.

Re: Tinkerbell refused entry
Some of the Kingdom Hearts characters actually were at Disney World for a brief time. I believe it was cross-promotion when the game launched.TiggerHappy wrote:This incident reminds me of this video where Guests dressed up as Kingdom Hearts characters and went into Disneyland. (Well, actually, they came in their normal clothes and changed in the bathroom.)
They did eventually get kicked out, but what I find funny is that they were kicked out for the same reason as April: they didn't want these cosplayers to be mistaken as CMs. Although Kingdom Hearts is copyrighted to Disney, there's no KH characters in any of the parks at all. Tinkerbelle I can understand, but KH characters? And yes, I have seen anime cosplayers wander around Disneyland outside of Halloween with no problem at all so technically the cosplayers shouldn't have had any issues with Disney at all.
It's fun, my wife has the nice mixed panic of what to wear to the parks because she likes the gothic lolita style, which can be seen as costume. My opinion is just don't do alice lolita and she should be ok, but we also don't want to get denied entry or sent back to resort to change so *bleh*.

Exactly. Many uninformed tourists just assume that its ok. I live near NYC and as I walk through Times Square to get to work, I always see clusters of Mickey Mouses, Elmos, and other costumed characters, none of whom are sanctioned by WDC, Seasame or anyone else. In fact, some of the folks in the costumes shouldn't be allowed around children.WEDFan wrote:Again, though, we might know this, but does the average visitor to the parks? But, the tourists from Nebraska who have just stepped into Times Square for the first time probably won't know the difference, or really care because, hey, its Elmo.

Exactly. No little kid is going to tell the difference, and most parents don't know enough to care that their children are in the hands of untrained strangers. Disney having characters in the park comes with a sense of accountability, making sure the people who pose for photos with the characters are safe. If anyone resembling a character, such as this girl's Tinkerbell, was able to (Heaven Forbid) harm a child or do something unsafe, it destroys some of the accountability that Disney has worked so had to maintain. They can't send Park Security into Times Square, but if they can keep such things from happening on their property they should.drcorey wrote:we get that here in the tourist areas. cheep god awful mexican or homemade costumes. we have a mickey and minnie here that are awful looking. 2 short fat mexican guys. and the kids dont know and love to take pictures with them. but if you ask them, they say they are Ricky and Rinnie Rodent. hmm, o k.

I'll stay in New York, thank you very much. That's enough of a freak show for anyone.drcorey wrote:Yes, Disney is protecting a quailty and thier branding.
