If you want to be a little more shocked, I just happen to have the 1983 WDW Vacation Guide on my site:

1983 WDW Vacation Guide

If you look at the Vacation Information section, there are all sorts of interesting prices listed. How about dinner in France for $10-$16? Hoop-Dee-Doo, $17.50. River Country, $6.75. It's actually an interesting read.

As an aside, no prices, but the Disney Archives did bring some Opening Day media to the D23 WDW 40th event:

Opening Day Media
That is true, there are two more since then, but people were looking for a comparison of rates and there it is.

That came from the pages of Steve Birnbaum's first "Official Guide" published in 1983. That was the first year I went to WDW. You would think...my how clever he was to keep that for so long. Well, I have to bow my head in shame because I bought it at a yard sale about 8 years ago for $2.00. It was in pristine condition.

I meant "shame" because I didn't actually buy the book in 1983. Didn't even know anything like it existed. (pre-internet days, don't cha know)

I'm with NemoRanger -- nothing to be ashamed of. But what do I know -- I'm green with envy about your first year Birnbaum, myself. :D:

It is currently in Florida State Law that it is a misdemeanor to sell any partially used multi-day theme park ticket. They don't go after the tourist selling to the storefront, but they do go after, close down, and fine the storefronts that sell them. Also, sometimes even jail time.

Oddly enough, I didn't know it was the "first" one until this year. I bought it because it was the year that I first went to WDW and I thought it would be a nice keepsake. I was more right then I thought. I almost threw it out when I was downsizing for my move to NC last year. Nostalgia stopped me! :)

My last guest I got through the turnstile today just shocked the heck out of me.

I was standing in front of a bunch of empty turnstiles this afternoon when up wheels one a HUGE guest in one of those hover round chairs with his ticket in hand sticking out for me to take it.

Seeing as he is the only one coming my way and me being nice I smile and grab his ticket and look on the back to see his signature and that its an annual pass.

To make life easy I ask for his ID. Its then as he reaches for his walet he throws the biggest hissey fit. He starts yelling out me that he has been coming for YEARS and nobody has ever asked for ID and he HATES being asked for ID. On and on he went.

I just continued to smile and say well Sir, for Safety and Security we do ask for some ID.

Anyways he then tell me how ridiculous it is and he has been coming for years. Which I responded. Im sorry but I do not know you and while I do not think your not who you say you are I just do not know you. It is just for security reasons.

To end this story, I smiled and told him he is more then welcome to go to city hall to express his complaint and here is my name and city I am from.

In hindsight I should have stopped him when he started complaining and made him get his fat ass out of the chair and used the biometrix. That would have really got him mad.

I just hate that I was trying to be nice and I got bit on the ass. OH and as I was walking out I peaked inside City hall and sure enough he was there bitching away.

Eh, he's just one of those folks whose bark is worse than his bite. (And if he's as big as you say he is, then biting is not an issue since you would be well out of range before he could open his mouth. :D: )

Next time explain that them that they either need to use the biometrix, or to show you their ID, their choice, or you can't let them in.

Well I have new pet peeve. I am getting sick of people not having their ID. I was raised to believe you should always have your ID on you.

Today, there was some epidemic of people leaving ID in cars, home or resort. It felt like every other group would Identification fail and get to a point I would need ID.

I got yelled out by a couple of Annual Passholders who biometrix scans kept failing Identification Fails. It just would not work so I asked for ID and they said they left them in the car. I told them they would need to go to GR and they tarted yelling. So I said lets try this machine over here. Same deal. Again they yelled like its my fault they left their ID in the Car. Again they yelled they come all the time at least once a week.

I see thousands of people a day. While I recognize some people, linda skywalker for example but how can you forget her. There is no way I can now everyone.

My guess. They were using someone in their families like the brother pass and trying to get in.
