Charactor Auditions

was reading the lists of new auditions. noticed one new thing.
posted at the bottoms is:
Please do not come to audition dressed in costume!
I can imagine all the freaks that show up for these calls dressed up in thier own outfits and makeup. prolly would make a good tv show also, So, you want to be a Disney Charactor? lol

I saw Snow White, out of costume, a couple of weeks ago, while we were playing Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. I knew it was her because of the hair cut and some accesories and make up she was wearing. Even in street clothes she was still recognizable as the character she played. She did make for a good Snow White. This identification was confirmed when another CM recognized her too an started a conversation with her.

When in MK 10 days ago, Belles friend also happened to be a friend of one of the stepsisters. While she is a fantastic stepsister, as Belle, her facial expressions and features still say Anastasia or Drizella. When a friend moves from one of the "character" character roles , to a "Princess" character role, it must be very difficult to completely adopt the new mannerisms when on stage. Especially if it is a last minute substitution.

We looked for Snow at town hall on 2 occaisions, with no luck. and we kept missing her at Epcot too. Next time.

they are professionals. which is why Disney picks them.
they can switch roles like walking thru wardrobe.
hmm, a ana or dru is also a snow, I will keep a eye out.

They can change their performance, but the underlying facial features are a lot tougher to alter. I will try an find the photo, you will see what I mean. Certain distinctive faces just can't be disguised on some people.

It depends thou too. like if the charactor uses facial appliances. like the hatter. try finding him in a crowd in street clothes. or madame tremaine. or hunter.

I agree with Delsdad. Most may not remember but Lon Chaney, The Man of a Thousand Faces. In the few movies of his that I have seen he played several roles and was very different looking and acting in each role. When I have seen modern actors try to play different roles in the same movie it usually does not come across. Even when they wear a lot of makeup their mannerisms usually give them away.

Of course, some actors can play every role in a film and one does not care. Peter Sellers comes to mind.

Watch "The List of Adrien Messanger". Some are easy to spot,some are not. ;)

My favorite multi-role of late was Jason Isaacs (known best as Lucius Malfoy) in 2003's Peter Pan. He followed the stage tradition of that show and played both Mr. Darling and Captain Hook -- and he is magnificent in both roles. One of my favorites; see it if you haven't.
