Question to WDW Cast Members

Post by TiggerHappy » Thu Apr 12, 2012 10:05 pm

One thing that my friends and coworkers frequently bring up is the idea that WDW Cast Members HATE DLR Cast Members. Reasons range from DL being the only park that Walt actually walked through so it gets special treatment; to WDW getting treated like a petri dish when it comes to adding new things to DLR.

Is this the general case with WDW CMs loathing DLR CMs or are they in the minority? I'm kind of afraid to visit WDW and use my CM discounts if they're going to treat me like dirt. :(

If that is the case, that is just sad. Never heard of the idea, myself.

I heard from a coworker who went to WDW in recent weeks said that when he presented his Cast Member ID at the turnstiles, the WDW Cast Member told him to stand aside and continued to allow other Guests into MK. He waited for an hour before getting the hint and then demanded to see the lead in charge so he could get in.

And another coworker of mine told me that during his recent visit to WDW, he got dirty looks from the CMs there after he told them in worked in DLR.

When I worked for the parks I'd never heard this.
On the occasion when someone would identify themselves as a DLR CM, we never had a rivalry. It was more "Oh good, you know the pain" which normally lead to a random conversation about stupid guests and things breaking at the worst possible time. There was always some good nature ribbing involved (Your Small World is better.. Yeah but your Skyway still runs) type things but never anything nasty.

That was also 12 years ago now.

Still, seems like a case of Stupid CM to me.

TiggerHappy, I think a few of the DL CM are pulling your tail. Simply untrue, or I just can't buy into this.

I know there is friendly rivalry's and such. If there is any real malice, it's the minority. I know CM's on both coasts get jealous when we mention we were at the other park just X months ago and such. Many express how they want to visit the opposite coast.

No disrespect intended here but either the waiting CM was patient to the point of superhuman or a little slow on the uptake. An hour? Really?

As far as the "dirty look" is concerned that is one phrase that I cast aside like kool-aid from Jim Jones. It is completely unreliable and is never what it seems, but it can be deadly.

I'm just wondering, which turnstile did the DL CM go to for entry that they had to be personally let in? I know that the Magic Kingdom has designated CM turnstiles on the left side only. The other parks have them too and they have signs above them identifying them as such. These are usually used when a CM is bringing a guest into the park. I know my son can just use his Disney ID badge to get through any entry turnstile at the Disney parks here.
When I was working in the monorails last Summer, we had a transferee from DL. There wasn't any animosity against him.

It seems to me that having any animosity would be pretty snotty and childish for CM's to do. It would fall under the Stupid Cast Member Tricks category.

Ha ha! Spot on there!

I can only tell of one experience in visiting WDW as a DL'der and oddly
enough, entry was a problem as well. It wasn't rudeness, but more
like I was trying to pull a fast one to get in free. I had to show my
blue pass, my co. id and my CDL before they would issue my admissions.
Not a big deal, just struck me as odd with all of the tech that's in place.

Now mirror opposite, I've had several WDW Attractions CM's introduce
themselves at all of my locations and every time they were polite and
very respectful.

I've also followed some WDW CM's and even managers that have transferred here.
DL attractions seems to be some kind of litmus test for them. I've seen a WDW
attraction CM's career skyrocket to manager status, and I've seen
another get escorted out because he was "not attractions material" despite
having worked in MK's FL for years.

If you ever stop and ask yourself: "How do they dress themselves?"
Congratulations and welcome to my world.
