All of us.

Okay, I'm not certain about sub-minimum tipped positions, but they get automatic 18% on most service, so they aren't hurting either.

Disney could charge $50/pop, still pay everyone that SAME they are making now, and STILL make a large profit. Your argument is invalid.
It's not invalid, but it is irrelevant.

Capitalism is what we do in this country. WDW has four of the five most popular theme parks in the country (the other is Disneyland). Most of them run near capacity year-round. Under capitalist principles, this is an argument to increase prices. If Disney had gone too far, they'd loose too much business. Apparently they've lost yours, but so long as there are enough guests willing to pay -- and there clearly are -- that's fine.

If you want to move from a society based on capitalism to a system where prices are fixed at a rate that seems right to someone or some committee.... please write (assuming they have a postal service); you may not be the only one!

Mr. D. wrote: Here is another example of GREED. Took my son to the circus last year. $10/person was a reasonable price. Of course food was high ($1.25 for a 12oz can of soda). But the REAL show of greed was when ti came to cameras. Now most people would say they don't want you taking pictures of the acts as they are copyrighted, ect. so for that reason they ban you from bringing in cameras. NOPE You could BUY their disposable cameras and take all the pics you wanted. just not allowed to use your own. "Oh but they don't know if your camera is photo or video." They stopped a woman at the gate who had her own disposable camera she bought on the way there. IT IS PURE GREED. they wanted to FORCE people to buy THEIR cameras. The same way Disney wants to FORCE you to buy THEIR snacks.
I'm sure those disposable cameras took some really, high quality shots. How were the close ups? I bet they worked exactly as my low-end dSLR does in low light situations.

Man, you've got it all figured out and have certainly changed my mind. Let me know when you write the book, of course in spirit of your previous comments, I'll gladly pay $2.50 for a hardback copy. I trust it will be in full color? Can I also get it autographed and shipped to me for free as well? Thanks buddy!

Mr. D. wrote:Everyone knows Disney is not hurting for money.
They do? Then why aren't there pickets at every entrance? How about riots in the sweatshirt store? Maybe a paper plane attack on the Matterhorn?

Judging by the thousands who stream through the gates every day, there are plenty of people who see good value for their money by patronizing Disney parks.

Of course, there is always the tiny minority that feel they are a cut above the unwashed masses and have determined that they will work the system to get their (un)deserved discounts.

As I said before, stay home. If you go to the park you'll gripe all day, which rubs off on your kids, and they get pissy, which pisses you off, so you gripe even more, and eventually take it out on some poor barely above minimum wage CM who is just trying to make sure every guest is having a great time while thinking, "I'd sure like to get off my feet for ten minutes."

So cut the kid with the sore feet some slack. Stay home and build your backyard mini park where you can beat on stuff with a hammer to lessen your attitude and show your kids how to work with hand and power tools properly. They might really get into it and design some cool stuff and eventually go to Stanford where they major in engineering or design and take the cool stuff they built in the back yard and improve it and show it off to a recruiter from Disney Imagineering who hires them on the spot and gives them a hiring bonus of lifetime passes for the entire family.

Hey, it could happen. Unless you pop a gasket and croak.

And how are their disposable cameras any different then the one the lady bought before she got there? And it's nice to think the circus deliberately wants to make you WASTE your money on a camera that's going to take crappy photos that will last a life time. :) Personally, I don't know how the quality of the photos were. I used my smart phone to take pics from our nose bleed section. They turned out great and I have photos and memories that will last a life time.

hobie16 wrote:They do?

Ok. Anyone with a working brain does. But then we can't expect everyone to have one of those can we?

hobie16 wrote:As I said before, stay home. If you go to the park you'll gripe all day,
Man you just love to keep judging me and assume you know how I will act and what I will do. Have we met some time that I don't know about? No I don't gripe all day. I enjoy my visit. That don't mean I don't feel ripped off. Sure would have been nice to have some extra savings at the gate to have extra spending money in the parks. You know, to buy that great t-shirt that I could wear for years and year to come, (as free advertisement to Disney).

hobie16 wrote:some poor barely above minimum wage CM who is just trying to make sure every guest is having a great time while thinking, "I'd sure like to get off my feet for ten minutes."
Yeah I bet if Disney wasn't so GREEDY, they could pay that poor CM a little more to make them actually want to work. To quote a great movie (Office Space) "That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired." I wonder if that CM was paid a little more if they would be happy to come to work. Then it probably wouldn't bother them as much to be on their feet putting up with those guess that DO gripe all day and are pissy about being ripped off. Oh well, one can dream can't they

Sorry I spend my time teaching my kids USEFUL things like how to repair their own car so they don't have to take it to a mechanic and get ripped off. And before you say anything Yes I am a mechanic. I HATED working for shops that charged $75+/hr to work on your car. That's absurd. I have my own little shop and do work for people based on their income. You pay for the parts and I charge you labor based on what you can afford. This time you can only afford $10 for the oil change? Ok, no problem. Next time you can afford $20 for an oil change. Thanks, that works. I help you because I know how hard times are. THAT is what I teach my kids. NOT to be greedy and charge people $75/hr just because everyone else is. Oh and YES I have over head the same as the other guys. I have to pay rent on my shop, power, water, advertisement, employee salary. just like they do. The difference? The people I help, help me in return. The pint of all this still remains GREED drives companies like Disney. You and no one else can deny that. You know darn well that Disney CAN survive on a $50 admission.

Again. I agree to disagree. Final word. Take care my friend. :)

And that is why we pay our mechanic or all those that work for us like, welders, painters or safety crew a whopping 125 Euro per hour.
If they would like to spent their money in Disney they do not need to cheat and lie about it.
What you are doing is plane and simple stealing from US. You are the one that is making Disney raises his prices every year. The cheaters are the ones that are costing US,US money.

Mr. D, if I could find a coke for $1.25 ANYPLACE I would be thrilled!!!, & you feel the circus over charged you? Disney does not force guests to buy & or eat their snacks & food. Never have! All snacks & most drinks are allowed in the bag check areas with no problem, infact Disney Security does not even check food items unless they are called over due to an issue or attitude by entering guest(s) Please don't even bring Disney Security into your prolonged bitter outburst. Security is in all Disney parks to protect CMs, guests, & Disney property in this order. Ok, yes everyone, I fully understand I am banging my head against a brick wall, but as a CM, paid well above min wage, I feel I have full rites to post.

I have never been prevented from bringing food or drink into WDW. We bring water all the time. As a college student I used to come for the day and bring sandwiches. The only thing I've ever had to dispose of was my box cutter from work, which I volunteered to do before they found it.

Yes $1.25 for a 12oz can of soda is over charge. Vending machines charge you $.50-$.75 for a 12oz can. And if you don't mind the generic, you can get a Sam's choice for $.25

Main Streeter wrote:Disney does not force guests to buy & or eat their snacks & food. Never have!
You are 100% correct. You have the option to leave the park. Spend time going to your car or hotel to eat. then back to the park. So you are not FORCED to eat their food.

Main Streeter wrote:All snacks & most drinks are allowed in the bag check areas with no problem,
I don't think so. Our crackers were taken and put in the trash. We were allowed to keep our water bottles, except for the one that was a Pepsi bottle refilled with water. That was taken and trashed too.

Main Streeter wrote:infact Disney Security does not even check food items
Wrong again. Security checked all our bags and saw the crackers in the back pack and took them. When we asked why his response was "No outside food allowed."

Main Streeter wrote:Please don't even bring Disney Security into your prolonged bitter outburst. Security is in all Disney parks to protect CMs, guests, & Disney property in this order.
And a few packs of crackers are so dangerous? And if that is the case, then why not say "These crackers are a threat" no he said "No outside food allowed."

No it is I banging my head as it is obvious you and the others will never look past the precious mouse and see the greed behind the scenes.

First of all. *I* have not done anything but applaud someone for finding a way to help make their vacation more enjoyable and save a few bucks.

And I hate to tell you, but your reasoning behind paying so much for those services makes no sense. Lets break this down for you. I am in the U.S. so I will be using U.S. examples, but feel free to relate them to where ever you are from.

You take your car to the shop. They charge you $75/hr for service (plus parts). Out of that $75/hr the actual mechanic that did the real work gets $9.00 - $11.00/hr You now have about $64 left, of which $1-$2 will be used for that hours worth of water, $5 for the hours power bill, and maybe $10 for an hours worth of rent on the building. That leaves $47.00 for the owner to pocket. What did the owner do? He stood there and talked to the customer and took down a tag number. and he made $47/hr for doing so. The mechanic that does the real work. getting dirty, busting his knuckles, gets a whole $11/hr. That seems fair don't it? And here is another thought for you. Maybe if Disney (or insert company here) didn't charge $80 (or insert high price here) for admission (service), then people wouldn't have to charge $75/hr for service. It's a cycle.

I am not the one making Disney do anything. They raise their prices because they know if they charge $80 this year and they jump up to $81.50 next year people will say "it's only a buck fifty. That's not bad." But then in 5 years you're now paying $90 admission. THEN they offer you deals and discounts where you can get in for only $80. Why are you so blind to not see this?

Do you remember when gas (in the U.S.) was $1/gal? Then it went up, and up till $2/gal. Now $4/gal. Why because they know now we would kill for $2/gal. Heck they know we will cheer if they drop it to $3/gal and gladly pay it. Meanwhile they are laughing and raking in the money. They can be filthy rich on $2/gal. No their GREED says they need more and more. They need 4 cars and 3 houses. Disney execs are the same.

"...in 2009, Iger earned total compensation of $29,028,362, which included a base salary of $2,038,462, a cash bonus of $9,260,000, stock awards of $6,336,509 and option awards of $8,308,647. Iger earned a $13.5 million bonus in 2010, which was a 45.4% increase from 2009."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Iger#Disney

Tell me there is no greed there. Tell me they are hurting one tiny bit that a man saves a few bucks on admission is going to bankrupt them. Tell me that $50 admission would put them in the poor house. $13.5 million BONUS. Yeah I'd say they can sit on a few guest finding a loop hole.

On that note. I really must depart this topic. I have given plenty of information and food for thought. Take it or leave it.

Cheers
