College program pay and rent.
College program pay and rent.
I was on the WDWCP in Spring 1991. I made $5.60 an hour and lived in a six person apartment at Vista Way that cost me $56.00 a week. The four person apartment cost was $79.00 a week. Just curious what they pay on the college program and charge today for housing.

It's worth noting that if wages had kept up with inflation, then CPs should have been making $9.04 in 2010. Disney should be ashamed of themselves. We should also tie minimum wage to inflation, because workers get consistently screwed on this.

At WDW they do. I'm sure CA has a higher minimum wage (due to the higher cost of living) so their CPs would get paid more.TiggerHappy wrote:Wow, Attractions get paid that little? And here I was, grumbling about my measly $9.70/hr. (Which was raised to $10 after my DCP ended.)
Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

Florida minimum wage = $7.67/hourShorty82 wrote:At WDW they do. I'm sure CA has a higher minimum wage (due to the higher cost of living) so their CPs would get paid more.
California minimum wage = $8.00/hour
Not that much difference, and not nearly proportional to the difference in the cost of living.
OTOH, if Disneyland offers housing for CPs that costs 40% of their gross salary and free transportation to/from work and shopping as WDW does, then the difference in living costs aren't that far off.

I thought CA minimum wage was $8.50/hr. But what do I know? I'm being paid salary, at a rate of $9.03/hr. for 12 hours cleaning my church. It would be nice if it were more like $11-$13/hr., which I see is closer to the average for church janitors (yeah, I peeked in a book on that subject), but the bucks aren't there.

You are very educated. Have you tried to get something at a school district or Health Care Office?felinefan wrote:I thought CA minimum wage was $8.50/hr. But what do I know? Yes, and got the door slammed shut in my face. They don't want older adults working for them, nevermind the fact that it's illegal to discriminate based on age if you're over 40. And you have to get a buttload of evidence to prove your case. Trust me on this.

That is a shame. Hate to see you not have a chance for more. Nothing is certain for anyone, anymore. Keep telling my kids this so they will make their own opportunities rather than let the wind blow them about. Falls on deaf earsfelinefan wrote:Yes, and got the door slammed shut in my face.
