Yea, I forgot about that one. Another rehab gone bad.
I'm also not impressed with the alterations in pirates. Adding Capt. Jack in a couple of spots OK, The treasure room scene changes dissapointed me and the audio system IMHO is worse than before. I do like the Davey Jones scene in the beginning.
Hopefully they don't screw up Haunted Mansion.

The changes in POTC don't bother me. I kinda like the tie in. The DL version is the only one I've seen so far, it did look like an after thought with Sparrow and the treasure, but I don't see that they had much of a choice, other than completely redoing the last room before the lift hill. The audio is great. The Davey Jones scene at DLR rocks. I am biased though, POTC is my favorite ride.

It can't be that hard to figure out how to time the poachers truck and its sound effects nor how to keep a door open! A small air or hydraulic ram could do the door, for crying out loud! As for the truck, a simple sensor system similar to what they use to monitor the parade floats in the MK (and I assume the other parks) would work to trigger the scene I would think.
I agree that the poachers story has always bothered me. But from examining the aerial photos I have concluded that there is a long narrow corridor to get back to the load/unload area with not enough room to put any more animal life. So by having the "chase" section they have an excuse to drive fast through booring territory. JMHO
Now as to the truck doors, how expensive would it be to weld the door hinges to keep the door open, or attach a cable or even a series of heavy fishing lines between the offstage side of the door to the front fender. It shouldn't be too hard to hide them (and the expense for the heavy fish line is cheap even if bought at Walmart). :)
Lastly, it would make sense to me to just use a light/photocell trigger for the poacher truck. cheap, easy, and very glitch resistant.

The pirates at DL blows the one at WDW out of the water (no pun intended ye skallewags). It was always my favorite ride at WDW until I went on the one in DL, now I could skip it at WDW and not feel bad. The addition to Sparrow at DL fits a lot better than the one at WDW (my opinion), so it seems much more like an afterthought on the WDW version to me.
I am also in the camp that only saw the first Pirates (on video after the 2nd one was already out) and thought it was a bit overhyped and not worth wasting my time on watching the others, so shutting down Pirates to add him at all got on my nerve a bit...but i hold no grudges.

Liz and I watched about half the second one, and found we weren't following it very well. But perhaps we were just tired. Or is it difficult to follow? Maybe Disney's version of Pulp Fiction?

You got to remember, I'm talking about WDW. The revamped audio here is week at best. You can barely hear the wench auction anymore.
Never been to DLR. I would really like to go someday.

I like the new WDW PoTC... but then again, I can barely remember any of the old... and I'm a huge POTC fan... favorite ride at WDW, actually.

I've always been intrigued by pirates, so the ride was naturally my favorite. The DLR version is waaaaaaaaay better than the WDW one by far. Since I've yet to ride the "new" version of POTC at WDW, I can't comment on it, but I will when we get back :)
Now if I can just convince my wife to let me go to Tokyo DL...

She would never let you live it down... if she found out... :D:
We need you to go to Tokyo DisneySea and give us a trip report. Would you mind doing that for us?
