Of course they had taxes then. Not income taxes, that came about just last century but they didn't run the government on a Visa Card. All the more reason to be upset by that waste of money. He could have sent the Vice President on horseback to do that job. Even back then the Vice President didn't have much to do anyway. :p:DisneyMom wrote:Did they have TAXES back then? Re: Condolensces RE: SG's on president's visit
Again, my problem is not that he traveled or that he takes tax dollars to do it, it is a part of his job. Obama certainly isn't the first president to waste money... The more I learn, the more I am coming to the conclusion that Kennedy may be the last President that I really have that much respect for. My problem is being in a major theme park, that a lot of people missed part of the show of the park. I really don't like the idea of bypasses around Main Street. It's like if you were to perform a play, skip the first three scenes and go into the rest of the play without them. It's like if you went to a Jimmy Buffet concert and he didn't sing Margaritaville. Yes, Main Street is THAT important in the guest experience.Anglefan wrote:I'm trying to think of a nice way to put this, but all of the complaining about what needs to be done for a presidential visit is pretty ignorant. "Well why did he have to ____?" Seriously? I honestly thought this would be a thread making fun of how dumb all of the over dramatic and ridiculous complaining was on the other board.
Well, all our taxes weren't going back to a bank cartel. And that's where my politics get interesting, as once you get into that stuff, you can't see the Democrats, Republicans, Green Party, Tea Party and the rest as anything but a horse and pony show. And you see how the money spent by the government at this point almost doesn't matter.DisneyMom wrote:Did they have TAXES back then? Yeah, I know England did, but did we?![]()
I really need to stop bringing my political soapbox around here..
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Taxes have been around for thousands of years. If they didn't support the king, they supported the religion of the area. Or the armed forces.

So it's oh-so-wonderful that, even though Obama is disrupting the guest experience by giving a speech at WDW, it's going to stimulate the economy by bring in guests? I seem to remember that George W got SLAMMED when he suggested that Americans keep on with their lives after 9-11 and "maybe go to Disney World". That was intended to help the economy. Seems like a double standard. At least George W wasn't inconveniencing any one - he was in WASHINGTON doing his JOB.
