Anywhere but Disney, that's the solution. But when the walkways are packed, even a stopped couple causes a massive traffic jam.Goofyernmost wrote:If you are following so close that you run into them...then who is lacking courtesy? Fall in once in the middle of the night when you were expecting the toilet seat to be down and you will demand that it be put down every time! Especially if they did not flush!Goofyernmost wrote:It is the same argument as the everlasting male/female conundrum of toilet seat up or toilet seat down. Why is it any more effort for a female to put the seat down then for a man to do so. After all gravity is on the side of putting it down. And if it is the requirement of a man to put the seat down to convenience the woman...then why wouldn't the same requirement (common courtesy) be for a woman to leave the seat up when they leave?

Having come from households that had cats, I learned to put the lid down as well. I actually annoy my wife with that one.

It may not be that big of a big deal, but when the parks are crowded, and people are trying to get by, these "oblivious" people that decided that the middle of the walkway was a good place to stop and rest, to shoot the breeze, or to pick their nose or whatever certainly are annoying at the very least. Most of the time these people are blocking foot traffic from going in either direction, not just behind them, and most of the time it's a group of them that is doing this. One person would have little effect on the traffic, but take a group of three (or ten), then add strollers, EVs, etc. and traffic really starts to jam up.I suppose it could be called lack of courtesy...but that makes it all seem pretty deliberate. People stopping is a human response to many different things. Danger, confusion, surprise...many things.
Since none of us were born with eyes in back of our heads, we are not really conscience of what is behind us. We stop and do not become completely aware until after the stop. There is a difference between a planned stop and a sudden unplanned stop. Different reactions and thought patterns are involved.
When people complain about folks stopping in front of them in a place the size of Disney with the crowds the size of Disney, I just shake my head and wonder how they got so perfect as to never have done this at all. Or could they have done it and because of its makeup, can't even remember doing it. Why? Because it is not a big deal.
Why couldn't they just take a few more steps and pull over to the side of the walkway and be out of everyone's way like one would do on the road with their car? Doesn't that make sense? I never stop in the midle of a path because I know others will be trying to get by. It's just common courtesy and a very obvious thing to do when the parks are crowded.
I guess some people just don't care when they are in the parks. They feel they are entitled to do anything they want, no matter how much or how little of an inconvenience it is to others. It's just bad manners and inconsiderate to others. This situation could also cause a safety hazard. Those not paying attention, and stopped in the middle of a walkway, would most likely be the first ones to be knocked down or trampled if the crowd were to suddenly surge foward. Luckily this doesn't happen very often.
The bottom line is that this irks me, but they have the right to be SGs if they want to. I will eventually get around them if I have to. ;)

It may just be me...but if I am the one that is going to sit down, accidentally, into an unflushed toilet...I believe I would check to see if A. the toilet has been flushed AND B. the seat is down. Take care of yourself and you won't have to worry about what someone else does or doesn't do. Simple really!DonutGoddess wrote:Fall in once in the middle of the night when you were expecting the toilet seat to be down and you will demand that it be put down every time! Why does someone else owe you a toilet seat in a particular position? Do you put it back up just in case the next person is going to need it that way? Why not? Why is that different?

I don't disagree with what you are saying...what I am saying is THIS IS NOT A PERFECT WORLD. This stuff happens in theme parks. It always has and it always will. It is an inevitable event of humans.avengador1 wrote:It may not be that big of a big deal, but when the parks are crowded, and people are trying to get by, these "oblivious" people that decided that the middle of the walkway was a good place to stop and rest, to shoot the breeze, or to pick their nose or whatever certainly are annoying at the very least. Why let yourself get all tied in a knot over it. Just be aware, make the adjustments and go on with life. One will have way fewer ulcers that way. I still maintain that every single one of us, whether we remember it or not, is guilty of doing just this thing. I can almost guarantee it. I will almost guarantee that the vast majority of those that do it now are not aware of what is happening around them. So they will not recognize any responsibility anyway. Just kind of remember that, in all likelihood, people have had to swerve around you at some point in time and do the same thing for them. It shouldn't bother you anymore that knowing that other people are breathing in the same air space as you.

Re: Pet Peeve
I think the key may be that the Parks are often very near critical traffic density. That's the condition where any interruption in the flow will cause a major backup. We see this on the freeways all the time, where things are going fine, then one person hits the brakes for a squirrel, and the stoppage propagates as a standing wave until traffic levels drop substantially.avengador1 wrote:It may not be that big of a big deal, but when the parks are crowded, and people are trying to get by, these "oblivious" people that decided that the middle of the walkway was a good place to stop and rest, to shoot the breeze, or to pick their nose or whatever certainly are annoying at the very least. Very few people are aware of this phenomenon, and even fewer are aware that it happens in foot traffic much the same way it does for cars. The reason for this is that there are very few places in the US where pedestrian traffic gets that dense, thus most guests haven't that experience. Places where it is common, like parts of New York City, you learn young to either keep moving or get out of the way!
I'm not bashing New York here, just pointing out that most folks don't have the experience to appreciate the sort of large scale problem that such a brief blockage can cause. Not sure I'd want to interrupt their holiday to explain it, either.

I've actually done a (TINY) bit of study on how that happens with cars, and it's amazing how that slowdown literally for a squirrel can cause a backup for the better part of a day, and no one has any real idea why after the first two cars. Add a true accident, and if you're someplace like downtown Los Angeles on I-5 that slowdown can last into the next day certain days of the year. It's a mechanical butterfly effect.

Maybe these people are just trying to establish dominance by not letting you by? Maybe there is a subtler subconscious thing going on here.avengador1 wrote:It may not be that big of a big deal, but when the parks are crowded, and people are trying to get by, these "oblivious" people that decided that the middle of the walkway was a good place to stop and rest, to shoot the breeze, or to pick their nose or whatever certainly are annoying at the very least.
