Try Cocoa Beach first. Toy waves compared to Hawai'i. Work your way up to the North Shore gradually. That way, you can decide to quit while still in one piece!delsdad wrote:Love that ! On Oahu you should be safe in the Waikiki area except for the next few days. We've got an 8 to 12 foot south swell coming in. The really big surf there is during the winter on the North Shore.
Maui has some great places to learn. Break wall in Lahaina, and Puamana and Guardrails just south of town. The really big surf is on the North Shore around Hakui.
The gimungo stuff comes in at Jaws. Watch the beginning of the James Bond movie Die Another Day to see what it's like. Sixty feet is not uncommon on a good day. This guy just go towed in by the jet ski.
