My wife and I heard about this on the local news. We too are confused as to what this whole thing will be about. Neither of us are warming up to this idea. Maybe it's one of the few ideas Disney should just let die.

Just a nitpick, Wallaby, but Cameron had nothing to do with Robocop. (That was Paul "I'll make a Starship Troopers film without ever reading the book" Verhooven.)

I get the picture Verhooven read the book... and then decided to satirize it. It's such a diametrically opposed story to the book!

Actually, he's on record as not having read but a few chapters of the book.

Wow... it's such a spot on satire of the actual message of the book I thought it had to be deliberate!

Not sure I see the connection but some of the creative type folks must. Will be interesting to see what they come up with. My husband hates Avatar so he is less than thrilled, he calls is "Smurfs do 'Dances with Wolves'"

Wonder if he was thinking about a SG:D:

People, people, if we're going to compare movies-to-movies, esp with Disney involved...

Disney already made this movie, back in 1995. Except they called it Pocahontas. :p:

:pocahont: See? We've got a smilie and everything!

The sad thing about Avatar is that my wife has a story she's been working on for years about a character who finds himself on an alien planet. While she doesn't have the same conservation message in her story, the flora and fauna look like something my wife would create.

But right now we are keeping anything she draws mostly secret. We would hate to have some heartless conglomerate come and say that because she works for them, this character... or rather colorful race... that she's been working on since she was ten now belongs to them. And I don't trust them not to.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Gotta ask. Why would you say anything about her project here when it's a pretty good bet Disney corporate takes an occasional look at the site?
