And now your ankles would be all screwed up!

Actually, I agree that you need to do things as a kid that put the fear of God in you at an early age. Oh, the stories my grandfather me about his childhood...

But he had a great childhood experience and there were no heelies involved :p:

Remember wood burners and Xacto knives?

Not to mention sharp leather-working tools, dangerous chemistry sets, and my favorite: candy cigarettes!

When my kids were little, I slowly began to realize that our parents must have hated our generation. It first dawned on me when I took my boys to one of those pay-to-enter indoor playgrounds. Everything was padded with several inches of foam. And what did we have as kids? Monkey bars over concrete!

It's all Ralph Nader's fault. If it wasn't for him we could still be driving our Corvair's to the park to play Lawn Darts..

Not that I'm bitter or anything..

I still have Lawn Darts-the real ones with sharp little points. Does that make me a bad parent?

Depends -- are they used for recreation or punishment?

i would give my left arm for a set of Jarts!!! I'm not sure how my brothers and sisters and i survived childhood with our sight after having such a practicle playtoy!! Nothing like 10 pounds of sharp metal with easily broken "wings" that create other sharp impact points to keep the kids occupied!!!!

We loved our Jarts!! I really would like to know what rocket scientist designed that toy though..

Those were great! I remember the neighborhood snitch ratting me out to my parents for smoking. When my mom asked what the deal was, I offered her a candy butt. She thought it was funny.

How many stink bombs did you make with your chemistry set?

Did you ever get concentrated cinnamon oil and soak toothpicks in it? We bought it at the local pharmacy. They finally stopped selling it to kids when some parent complained their kid dropped some on the floor and it ate a hole through the linoleum tile.

Only if you use the lawn darts to take out gophers and stray cats.

Jarts are not gone from America YET.

For you sinful bad boys and girls there are still candy cigarettes being made and sold it seems. Other companies also sell old time candy.

The Brits have Sweet Tobacco for the kiddies made of coconut shredded and dusted with chocoalte cocoa powder.

Those were the good old days.

And be gentle with the cats, please. I was at a pet store getting supplies for T'Kirr's new friend (an anole that climbed her leg yesterday), and there was a cat that was labeled "free with kit". I SO wanted to get the kit and take the cat home.

I like cats. But they don't have pouches.
