When I actually think about it, Portal 2 cost me about $1000...

I got the game for $36 from amazon($55 pre-order price + $1 shipping with a $20 credit). The TV I had my PS3 hooked up to was borrowed and the person wanted it back and all others were in use. I figured I could use my own good TV anyway for when I move out so I bought a 40" 1080p HDTV. Then when getting everything set up and tested, we found that my old school, 60GB, fully backwards compatible PS3 was dead. Since I ordered the PS3 version, I kinda needed a PS3 to play it. I went out and bought the cheapest PS3 available new(my previous PS3s were both from ebay and had issues, I wanted to avoid that on my third).

Granted, the TV and PS3 I was going to get anyway and will use for other stuff as well, but I bought them last Sunday specifically for Portal 2.

Like any good story, I was unable to put it down until I had beat it.

I LOVE the ending credits song.

And this time around, potatoes are much more interesting than cake.
You guys are evil.

Yup, I said it. :D:

Now all three of you have me checking out Portal 2! No, have not bought it.

Am wondering if one needs to have played Portal 1 to understand it.

Also, do not understand. It says it is a single player game..so how are you all talking about playing each other??

Worse, was looking in Amazon for a price on Portal 1 (in case I wanted to try that) and of course not thru Amazon and $$. Then a review says you can rip through it in a couple hours. Seems like a lot of money for just a couple of hours.

Now, I do not have a gaming platform..just my PC in case that matters....

So....ideas? Need input. LOL

Nope. Wish I did though. Can't afford one either. I'd rather play this kind of game on PC anyways.

It'd help you understand references but from watching walk-throughs it looks to me having played Portal 1 isn't 100% necessary. You can download Portal for $9.99 from Steam or for $19.99 you can buy the Orange Box, which includes Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episodes 1 & 2, Portal, and Team Fortress. It seems they now have a Portal Bundle available as well, which contains Portal and Portal 2.

No shipping or anything like that to worry about, all you need is a Steam Account, which is free and easy to sign up for. If you get the Orange Box you don't have to download everything at once, what you don't download stays in your Steam account so you can download it at a later time. That's what I did, I bought the Orange Box but have only downloaded Portal so far.

The main game is single player but there is a co-op portion that you can play. It takes 2 people working together to make it through that portion.

There's a lot of replay value to the game, especially the Orange Box version which includes special achievements and the like. You can also easily download custom maps from the Internet, giving even more replay value.

It shouldn't matter though it depends on your system. My system just meets or is one step higher the the minimum requirements Portal 1 and it plays just fine over-all.

And Sony finally tells us what's going on with PSN.

Hopefully they'll be able to bring it back up soon.
