I am naughty....and freely admit to bringing my old mugs back almost every yearly visit. I have the older 'fat' mugs from 2001 from both ASMusic and Movies...as well as a newer generic 'travel' mug version from 2007.

The 'fat' versions i have were purchased back during that magical time period when they were marketed ( if memory serves correctly...) to be 'always fillable for future visits'. I vaugely remember this, as the reason i finally bought one in 2001 was because of the fact i was now seeing myself visiting every year and it made sense to have one. I doubt i would have bothered if this was not the case. This was ages before the new policy began, and the small lettering 'to be used until end of stay when mug was purchased' text appeared.

I still bring one with me every trip....and maybe fill it twice. The rest of the time i use it in my room just to have a bigger cup to drink out of.

I may be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprise if, buried in the terms of sales for those "refillable on future visit" mugs was something along the lines that said the terms of the offer could be change without prior notice, thus allowing them to set a cut-off date.

I would like to see those 1 gallon mugs there. course it would be kind of heavy taking a full one around. and who do you have hold it while on the rides?
hey, lady, can you hold this for me? and no drinking from it please.
Out here we have guitar mugs, basicly a full size guitar shaped mug you can have filled with booze. I wonder if I can take mine into the parks?

When my sister and I go to WDW, we always get a refillable mug at the resort we are staying at. Getting free refills at our resort restaurant is cool.

Here's a little known secret...keep the paper/plastic cup that they give you when you purchase a soft drink and the same thing happens. Refills are permitted no matter which one you have. :)

The fat mugs are the bane of my existence. I'm a CP at AS Sports so obviously, the fat mugs are well before my time. And when I trip up and say "I'm sorry sir/ma'am, you can't use outside containers at the Beverage Island", I get this smarmy, smug look in return "but it's refillable forever and ever". Uggggggggghhhhh.

I'm just glad I haven't seen anybody do what my friend's mom does - buy one refillable mug and bring styrofoam disposable cups. Fill the mug, pour it into a cup, rinse and repeat for the entire family. I think I'd lose so much faith in humanity.

Back when I worked in fast food, we would have people buy one soft drink, and ask for cups for water. Of course, they would basically do the same thing as you describe. We would then inform them that the extra cups were for water only.

You know, I have a better solution to those mugs.

Stop drinking soda.

I did that two years ago, and there are but two products that I actually like now: Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback.

I intentionally keep them out of the house so they are not a temptation.

But without soda, how would restaurants have anything they could mark up ten million percent?
