A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

As the sun set, the seal slid back into the water to go wherever seals go to sleep.

I learned from my parents mistakes when it comes to credit cards. I have one but don't use it very often and keep it paid off. I don't see it as "free" money, I see it as "the most expensive money available." That said, while I was going to school there was a time where I pretty much maxed it out, but that's because I needed money for tuition, needed to pay right then or pay late fees, didn't have enough in my bank account, and knew I had a paycheck coming that would give me the money I needed in less than a week. I used the credit card to pay tuition and then paid it off as soon as I got paid. This sums up why I have it, extreme emergencies, I try to have money saved otherwise.
My parents on the other hand are struggling to get our of credit card debt.

We'll set up a prepaid credit card for Lil' Husker and reload it every month. She'll learn how to budget and stay out of credit card hell.
A friend asked me about some financial problems she was experiencing. She said she was trying to save for a trip but was having problems with cash flow. She finally admitted her CC was about $5000 behind and the interest was killing her.
I came unglued. I told her to forget about the trip and send the money to pay down her debt. I also have been bugging her about her spending habits on clothes. I've been such a wet blanket that she's paying off the CC so I won't yell at her.
What ever works.

Hobie, might I suggest that, instead of a prepaid debit card, you might instead set up a bank issued secured credit card? With the limit on a secured card tied to the account it's issued on, it will work similarly, and as long as the payments are made regularly on time, it also builds a credit history for her, an advantage that prepaid debit cards don't have.

PayPal has a deal where you can set up a student account, add (or remove) funds yourself. The student gets a debit card and can also use the account for online purchases. You can monitor every purchase made, set limits, set alerts for various events, all free. It's a decent setup.

Except when PayPal remembers that they are not a bank and decide to freeze funds for no reason or other odd behavior.
