I looked into that, but I haven't had the need to use flash.

Honestly, I'd rather have the game as an app, although I do play flash games on my macbook :)

Lasolimu wrote:I think I can explain why they won't put flash on these devices, whether or not it makes sense is another story...At some point in time, Steve Jobs decided that he didn't want any form of adult entertainment available on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or other similar devices from Apple. The way he sees the situation is that a lot of people in the adult movie/image business use flash as a major part of their websites, so not supporting flash means those sites won't work on these devices. Is it true? I really don't have anything to show either way, but I do think it is plausible at least.
Steve Jobs (and I can agree, you should hear this macbook pro when I'm playing a flash game) that it is about performance. I can watch my battery drain when running flash. I haven't updated to the new "optimized" version. It has nothing to do with porn, as you can stream mp4's on the ipad/iphone without any issue.

I also enjoy flash games on my Macbook Pro. I made the switch from a Windows XP Thinkpad in January. I have no problem with Flash Capable Mac Products, I just won't touch the ones that that control freak Jobs is trying to keep Flash off of.

And FTR he only recently (September 2010) allowed APPS that were compiled from Flash. Previous to that all iPod/iPad apps had to be made in Apple's own SDK, and wouldn't allow Flash CS5 Devs to use CS5's new shiny capability to export as an App.

Re Performance: Flash is a little clunky, yes, but despite what Jobs says about Flash being a Dead language, HTML 5 still lacks the breadth of interactivity capabilities demonstrated by Flash.

It's already surpassed Flash as far as streaming video, and they're welcome to it. Flash was never really meant for that in the first place, and it was a horrible idea to use it for such... (I'm looking at you, YouTube.)

But there are currently no comparable development tools for HTML 5 to the actual Flash software Development Environment. When there is, I'll gladly learn to use them, but in the meantime Flash is the only platform that has the Developer End tools to let people single handedly create games and educational interactions. I've seen some attempts at HTML 5 based games, and they're ABYSMAL.

If I may...

It is true that Apple does like to maintain strict control. This is both blessing and curse. In this case, it means that they don't want to use Flash because they see the mobile version as "lacking" in terms of performance and stability, among other things. It is true that HTML5 isn't at Flash's level when it comes to features, it does seem to be the direction things are heading, and Apple has been rather good about taking a chance when it comes to adopting new technologies, with the notable exception of Blu-Ray video. :cat1:

I'll be sure to remember how wonderful Apple and their new product adoption is while I'm packing up my desk later today.

The fact is they're force-killing Flash before a suitable successor exists. Flash Devs have no place to move to, because HTML 5 isn't ready for us yet.

Mayonnaise,
Sorry to hear about the layoff. It's sucks.
I hope you find something even better soon!
